I tried the 909X2 and the volume drop on SSB irritated me, so I returned it. I understand that some samples do not suffer from this problem.

Hey, Dave, good to hear from you. My budget is "flexible", but I would prefer to keep my Scottish thrift genes happy. I like to listen to the ham bands but also to poke around to hear any utility transmissions that might still be active (Gander aero radio, for example). Does that help?
