The sds 100 is so frustrating to program coming from a bcd396xt

I've heard many people complain that programming the SDS200 or Uniden 436 is frustrating, but that appears to be because they carry preconceived ideas about how the process should go. "It doesn't work the way a scanner is supposed to work!" they say. It's a bit like switching from an Apple...

    diamond RH77CA

I own and use several of the Diamond 77s, and they work well. If you already have a telescopic antenna, you can fine-tune it for a particular frequency by keeping an eye on the signal strength indicator and adjusting the length for maximum signal. I have done that with a scanner that I use on...

RT systems is it worth it?

I was put off by the Chirp dislaimer when you launch the software that says, in essence: "You may brick your radio."

RT systems is it worth it?

I have bought three RT programming systems and had very good experience with all of them. The first one I had a question on a Saturday, sent an email, and got an answer within a couple of hours. Highly recommended.

Best HF portable for SSB reception?

Well, you might be right about the GAS. If you recall, my original post was: "I wondered if anyone here has hands-on experience with a portable that they feel significantly out-performs the 880 for SSB reception." So, if someone replied with: "Yes, I have the 880, but my new Fiddlywahdiddly 321...

Best HF portable for SSB reception?

I tried the 909X2 and the volume drop on SSB irritated me, so I returned it. I understand that some samples do not suffer from this problem.

Best HF portable for SSB reception?

I already have lots of gear for listening to VHF/UHF, primarily interested in 1.8-30MHz.

Best HF portable for SSB reception?

Hey, Dave, good to hear from you. My budget is "flexible", but I would prefer to keep my Scottish thrift genes happy. I like to listen to the ham bands but also to poke around to hear any utility transmissions that might still be active (Gander aero radio, for example). Does that help?

Best HF portable for SSB reception?

I have a Tecsun 880 that performs adequately on SSB both on the whip antenna and an external antenna. I wondered if anyone here has hands-on experience with a portable that they feel significantly out-performs the 880 for SSB reception. ??

Another new toy to play with

Thanks . . . and very informative. A couple of questions: when you heard the pirate, were you using an external antenna? Also, does the 501 have smooth tuning on the knob, or do you get those click-stops and chuffing between tuning steps?

MFJ-1886 with Drake R8A Will it work?

I use an MFJ1886 with a Grundig Satellit Millenium 800, which has, basically, the guts of a Drake SW8. It works well and works particularly well on medium wave. See Comment #2 here: https://www.eham.net/reviews/view-product?id=600 Check out this review: Testing the MFJ-1886 Receive Loop Antenna

R6 Problem with Icom R6 "skip" function

To quote myself from another post: "I'm sorry, but when you plunk down 700 bucks for a scanner, you ought to get a better manual than the 55-page guide that comes in the box. If I were grading this manual, I would give it a "C." For $700, you ought to get an A+ manual to go with your awesome...

I am a CONTENT DXer, constantly looking for "interesting" stuff to listen to, whether it is on the shortwave bands, SSB utlities, or the ham bands or even on my scanners.

    Quansheng UV-K5 (8) and chirp

Since there is a warning as Chirp boots up that it may render your radio useless (I am paraphrasing here), I bought the RT systems software and cable, programmed my UV-K5(8) with it, and I now use the radio frequently as part of the Commuter Assistance Network -- Commuter Assistance Net I...

You might try the Maritime Mobile Service Network -- Maritime Mobile Service Network -- on 14,300 USB. Lots of checkins . . . . mostly from land stations . . . but occasionally . . . . And there is a listing of maritime mobile networks on ham radio here: Maritime mobile amateur radio -...
