new Fobos SDR with USB 3.0 Interface from RigExpert

+1 on that one. Watching with interest but as mentioned weighing the practicality of it for general VHF and above use given the proven performance of the Airspy and SDRPlay devices available at a lower cost.

SDS100/SDS200: Getting almost nothing sitting in termimal at ORD - SDS100

As I have found that the wrong filter settings can raise hell with the reception of some analog signals, sometimes over a wide variety of frequencies (in my case anyway), the suggestion was made. You may very well be correct regarding a bad antenna and/or connection, but it never hurts to try.

SDS100/SDS200: Getting almost nothing sitting in termimal at ORD - SDS100

Have you tried changing the filter settings? Menu (button on left side of scanner with 3 horizontal red lines) > Settings > Global Auto Filter > I would start with Off. If you haven't touched it it'll be set to Normal. If Off doesn't work, repeat the process and try some of the other options...

    SDS200 waterfall display tweak needed

After using this feature for a while I do have to agree with the above statements. My Airspy units blow its doors off for weaker signals. I have tried different filter settings and RF gain adjustment to maximum, lower, and auto mode. It pretty much fails with weaker signals. I did not have high...

    Antenna Specialists MON restoration?

The heat shrink idea with epoxy is definitely the best, but in lieu of that I would think some of the waterproof 3M stretchable tape tightly wrapped around it, followed by tightly wrapped electrical tape would keep it together as well.

    Weather Monitoring

This is somewhat of a different answer than what you're asking, but if you have an interest in watching the storm chasers and are not familiar with the ways to do so, here are a few where you can directly watch their streams, as long as you're in a safe position to do so...

    Airspy R2 portable.

Have you experimented with this type of mobile setup at all? I'd be concerned about interference sources while operating in a moving vehicle and the potential considerable bog-down of the scanning due to it. I know it's not the answer to your inquiry but it seems as though it could be a...

    Scott's Radio Room for 2023

I think my solution to this will be the rewire and some appropriately placed chokes. They introduce varying levels of "hash" and vertical lines to the FFT of my Airspy/SDR# setups. It definitely has something to do with the CAT6 cable. If I disconnect it from the scanner the interference drops...

    Scott's Radio Room for 2023

Decided to move the speakers to the front and happy that I did. It really doesn't cause any grief for me as far as desktop space goes. Also, replaced the stock monitor mounts with some pretty inexpensive but simple and effective mounts. Results shown below. I'm much happier with the height of...

    Solar Eclipse

This. Because of the inevitability of situations equal to or similar to that, combined with the amazing inability of probably about 75% of drivers in New England sucking at driving in the first place, or concluding that it is in fact a secondary task behind texting, teasing one's hair, applying...

    Scott's Radio Room for 2023

I've considered the speakers in front of the console and wasn't happy about it but I may revisit that. I can move the console back about an inch as it is. I may just do that. Side brackets may work for the Bose speakers. I'm planning on doing a complete re-wire starting next week anyway. I've...

    Scott's Radio Room for 2023

Ironically I was just revisiting the idea today. I think what I'm going to do is buy a 3rd party vertically adjustable monitor stand for each to bring them down to eye level. My other issue with that involves speakers, not only the 8 scanner speakers that sit on the top of the console, but also...

Purchasing packages vs. wrestling through a new scanner

As many may know, I work for one of the companies that sells scanners and offers programming services to customers should they choose to go that route. When I am discussing their purchase of a scanner and programming options, I always explain to them that regardless of whether they do it, or we...

    Digital Voice quality

The best digital audio I've heard from a consumer level hardware receiver is from the Icom IC-R8600. The SDS200 with audio passing via its ethernet connection to ProScan does a nice job as well. (Actually both are SDR's) But the best overall P25 audio I have ever heard comes from the OP25...

    UHF-T Band Yagi?

Apparently I haven't searched very well and overlooked a lot. Thanks for that list.

    UHF-T Band Yagi?

While searching for UHF yagi antennas for a spring antenna project it appears to me that just about every one for the commercial UHF bands shows 470 MHz as it's upper boundary for coverage. I understand this as most parts of the country don't use the T bands for land mobile radio. Is anyone...

    Anyone monitoring in Baltimore?

Actually I stand corrected. I was thinking the way into the northernmost part of Chesapeake Bay was before that...ah well, it was October of 1982 when I transited that canal, and half the time I can't remember what happened last week...so never mind!

    Anyone monitoring in Baltimore?

I'd bet there might be an increase in radio and ship traffic through the canal in the attached photo. About a million years ago I was in the Coast Guard and when we left the shipyards in Baltimore our captain decided to go this way. That was a 378' cutter that drew 19' so I'd expect some good...
