"EYE CANDY" radio's (from any era) - Post your favorite(s)!

Perhaps the best HF receiver of the 1990s. The Watkins Johnson WJ-8711A. First generation SDR as it used a Motorola DSP chip for demodulation. I have one and I am impressed with it's performance.

    Railroads and NXDN

Hello Mike, Scan New England shows a repeater for Boston Engine Terminal using both Analog with a PL of 100.0 and NXDN on 161.475. It does not show a RAN. There is also a listing for simplex operation at Widett Circle Service and Inspection Facility using a PL of 131.8. There are also several...

    SDRuno Shortwave Schedule?

The plugin is part of the community plugins so it should be on the plugin list. It comes with a now outdated SWSkeds file and has instructions in the docs on getting updates from the two sources.

    SDRuno Shortwave Schedule?

Hello, SDRuno has a FRAN plugin (I wrote it) that can take schedule/memory bank files and display them as annotations on the spectrum display. It decodes the schedule information in SWSkeds and EiBi files and will only display stations scheduled to be on-the-air. It will also use color to...

    Sub Search

13306 USB is a NAT-A (air traffic control) frequency. The search site is within the NAT-A area. I heard coast guard aircraft talking to New York Radio.

Total # Color Codes vs RAN codes

Also on NXDN Type-C trunking sites, the bits used for the RAN code are used for the site id modulus 64. So the code for site 7 will be displayed as having a RAN of 7. 73 Eric

Commercial radio that will scan all 97 AAR channels.

I was able to setup scanning all 97 ARR Channels with a Icom IC-F3261DT that has RR (Railroad) Firmware in it. You need the special RR version of the Icom Software to program it.

I created two UHF NEXEDGE system LCN calculators!

Hello, You can use a cast to convert the double to an int. printf("The LCN is: %d\n", (int)(resultLcn+0.5); There are format modifiers to printf that allow control of the decimal point. If you want to only print 4 digits after the decimal point. printf("The frequency is: %.4lf...

    Icom: Icom 7610

Hello, Yes, it is okay. The red range means the voltage is too low. 73 Eric

    Icom: IC706 2M 146MHz limit

That makes sense. I bet there is a Service Manual for it in Japanese. I have seen other radios where the part number for the programmed CPU is different based on the region. 73 Eric

    Icom: IC706 2M 146MHz limit

Hello, The only way to get back the 146 to 148 MHz segment is to change the diodes that configure what version the radio is. Based on the table in the service manual, you want Version #5 (USA). The Japanese version is not listed, but is usually Version #1. All the diodes are DAN222TL D57 FRA...

Pro-668: Pro-668 DMR upgrade (unofficial firmware)

Hello, The "bomb" has two parts. FW 4.6 is also needed. The only change between DSP 3.0 and DSP 3.1 is added code that disables DMR and firmware updates. FW 4.6 has code to determine the date and call the code in the DSP 3.1 file. 73 Eric

Pro-668: Pro-668 DMR upgrade (unofficial firmware)

Hello, Actually it is more insidious. There is only one version of DSP Version 3.1. There is a check of the real-time clock in the scanner and any DSP Version 3.1 will "detonate" past the July 2017 date. I would get the official update. 73 Eric

Would somebody experienced in military comms take a look at this?

I do wonder if some money for Russian military communication upgrades got diverted into someone's pocket. I found this older article interesting. It does mention updated radio equipment on a captured Russian paratrooper. Russian Comms in Ukraine: A World of Hertz

Following IDAS systems with DSDPlus FL

Hello, It might be useful to read this thread. https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/understanding-idas-trunking.298002/ You can think of IDAS as a digital LTR system. The control channel is a separate low speed data channel from the voice data channel on each frequency. Like LTR, the...

    STM TETRA System

Hello, Most of the sites on this system are underground. The system may still be in build out. Not much activity the last time I monitored the site a few months ago. I have not tried listening below ground yet. I only get up to Montreal one or two times a year. 73 Eric
