    ATS 25 MAX?

I bought one shortly after they first came out - and to tell the truth I wasn't impressed. The scrap of paper which they called a manual didn't help at all - there are so many touch screens you can bring up and then can't get back to the first one! I found out how to store station names and...

What can I receive on LW and MW?

..... and actually car radios are very good receivers of the MW and LW bands as they are designed to work off a rather small antenna - but they lack things like a signal strength indicator - but they do usually have good tone controls. In the wee small hours of night shift we could often listen...

As a kid, what was your most "drooled over" communications receiver? (Include photo)

At about 8yo I got a crystal set for Christmas. A friend of my Dad modified it to get the 49m band which was jumping in the 1950's with all the propaganda in Europe - we lived in the UK then. A couple of years later I persuaded my Dad to buy me something better from the war surplus stores in...

BC125AT: Charging batteries in the BC125AT?

I have had two non-branded 2300mA/Hr batteries in my UBCT125AT since I bought it some two years ago - I run it until it starts to bleep than plug it into any 5volt charger that's nearest and charge it until it says "Charge complete" - it's never put a foot wrong and seems to run for 6 hours...

BCD325P2/BCD996P2: Copying programming from one scanner to another?

I have two UBCT8's and they both use the same table of the stations I found that have the info I want. I can then select the banks that I want to listen to at that particular time on any of the banks - for instance banks1 and 2 are Police, fire and emergency, bank 3 is civair and so on - works...

    Do wideband yagi antennas exist?

I know I'm nitpicking, but the proper name is "log aperiodic" - aperiodic means "untuned".

    Uniden tuner utility needed.

As a retired calibration engineer, any test equipment used to carry out an adjustment to bring an item into the published accuracy must have a specification of better than four times the item under test. The test equipment used to perform the adjustment must have been tested to be within...

74 to 77 mhz air band and 470 to 495mhz all round antenna

I have three antennas on the same pole - A cut-down band 1 TV dipole antenna which covers the 70MHz band, another cut-down TV antenna made a folded dipole centred on 125MHz and a commercial very solid discone which was 'liberated' from the Mount Cook Airline office at Twizel when they closed it...

    13264usb 2300utc

Give the guy a break, he's only made 9 posts so he's still learning! He's given the frequency, the time in UTC and his location is Seattle, Washington so he's doing pretty well. Like I said in a post a few years ago, signal reporting is generally pretty poor. Get a read of this article from...

    Mixer or multiple speakers

I use a Behringer RX 1602 - each input has a level and balance control and the output has a monitor and stereo out to a small 15 watt amplifier and two speakers - works very well - maybe too complicated for a truck though.

    Phonetic Alphabet

The ITU phonetic alphabet is just that - Phonetic. If I want the write down an "A" I'll write A, not Alfa or Alpha. If I want to speak an "A" I'll say "Alfa". It's a pity that some operators have fancy phonetics that they have dreamed up as they think they sound cool - I beg to differ. If I want...

right now (1206 Z) Gander Radio working SELCAL codes

I don't quite understand "working selcal". Gander, Shannon and Reykavik are in the MWARA group "NATC" and Gander and Shannon in group NATF. Whenever an aircraft enters those groups he has to establish HF communication with his appropriate ground station and test the aircraft selcal system by...

Why is 53 to 88 mhz blocked on scanners?

Here in NZ the band around 75MHz is well used by the police, fire and ambulance - on separate frequencies of course. My UBCT125 picks them up very well just sitting on top of the dash in my car. A couple of BCT8's does well when I'm at home too.

    Shortwave Radio Help

The ATS25-max promises everything but unfortunately doesn't give much. The operating manual (ie - scrap of paper) is next to useless so it's a matter of just sitting down and playing with it. They provide a telescopic antenna which works alright if you want to play outdoors as it seems to pick...

180 Degree Optimized Scanner Antenna (Like a "Half Discone" or "Wide Range Yagi?)

You won't get a true semicircle but a cardiod (heart-shaped) will probably do. You haven't said what antenna you are using at the moment or how it's mounted. Vertical dipoles for UHF/VHF antennas can be reasonably mounted on a TV mast and if you space it about 1/4 to 3/8 wavelength from the...

Do they make HF receivers with scanning ability?

I have a Kenwood R2000 that has ten memories and like tuihill I have programmed the memories to the low end of the broadcast bands then I just twiddle the tuning knob to scan that band. I've had that radio since the early 80's and it has never let me down.
