I agree whenever possible however, that can be difficult on some rural sites with little traffic. That’s the status of many of the sites I’ve recently submitted.

They don't change frequencies or talkgroups. There are a number of frequencies, for example Middle School, High School and Buses are each on their own frequency but the talkgroup is the same. The talkgroup is not linked across frequencies.

Updates don’t need to be purchased, you already have the license to run the software but you do need contact with a dealer for updated software downloads. 4.0 is pretty recent and unless you’re doing DMR trunking I don’t think there have been major updates.

In Vancouver they are typically on the CRESA system which is patched across to their VHF conventional channels.
