Fire is still using lowband as well as a bunch of crossband VHF repeaters. Watertown Police and Fire are the only agencies that have switched to UHF. Fire has theirs linked with their old VHF frequency. Sheriffs have dual band radios in their cars and have gone to narrow band on their VHF Freq.

Maybe I am missing something here, but using a Maxtrac isn't exactly rocket science. Power/Volume, Channel Up/Down, Scan (mic has to be on grounded clip), etc. Programming it on the other hand can get quite a bit more technical, such as 16 channel to 32 channel conversion.

Do you burn your hand touching the Tx radio? If so, that is too hot. I would say anything more than warm is too much.

You could try grounding the mic clip. I know this is the case for the F121/221 radios.
