I ran into this once. I forget the fix. Might be change the RX only channel to enable TX. Make sure there is a valid TX freq. Then make sure that "talk back scan" is unchecked. Then go back to RX only. It seems you can't uncheck talk back scan once you set it to RX only so you have to enable...

If memory serves me, that full volume thing can happen when the volume pot solder pads get broken. That also happens when the pot gets broken by hitting the top of the volume control and breaking the pot inside. Dropping them and having them land on the volume knob will do it.

Most of those radios had a diode in series with the side charging contact. Some had a fuse. Probably blown fuse or fried diode. Or just could be broken solder joint. Pop the battery tray out and take a look.

Is that all? I would expect them to be more than that. I would also expect it to only work really well for one band...

I recall where some of the CPS you had to program the "channel" (mode) as a transmit, set the NAC's and freqs as needed. THEN go back and select RX only. The NAC should stay as set. Cumbersome, but I *think* ASTRO 25 and ASTRO Spectra worked that way. I am pretty sure Astro Spectra worked...
