    Test Equipment Recommendations

I agree with most of the above several peoples posts. But I disagree with the statement that "For tuning duplexers....best thing to use is a tracking generator". I believe the best thing to use for duplexers, combiners, and other filters is a VNA. A spec an / track gen is a good way to tune...

    Test Equipment Recommendations

I agree that the Anritsu folks think differently. I chalk that up to the difference between "field" people and "lab" people. Anybody remember the Motorola CyberTest service monitor? I had one of those, and it had some REALLY cool features. Used it quite a while. But having to rely on "external"...

    Test Equipment Recommendations

RescueRandy, I have used pretty much every feature of the LMR-MASTER extensively. WiFi and Wi-Max not so much. Yes, with a couple of its options, it makes a good service monitor. Not much that you can't test with it. But it is complicated. You have to think of that being many instruments in one...

    Test Equipment Recommendations

Forget the inexpensive stuff. Won't work in the presence of much RF. Questionable measurments, so useless. If you are going to be doing anything other than what the Bird 43 wattmeter will tell you, you want an Anritsu or the Sighthawk or similar. Spend the dollars and save man hour expenses. I...

Seeking MT1000 VHF Low-Band 99 Channel Codeplug for 6 Meters.

Forgot to mention, there wasn't an actual 99 ch low band MT1000. The "display" model was only supposed to be 32 ch. That said, I have seen some that were 99 ch as they had controller boards that must have come from V or U radios from the factory. The most common ones I have seen were only 32...

Seeking MT1000 VHF Low-Band 99 Channel Codeplug for 6 Meters.

You should be able to program 6M channels in, but the VCO's OFTEN won't go very high in the band. I will look in QRZ.

    MT1000 case swap ?

Mike, I did double check and I don't have any UHF MT1000's But if you source one, I can do the swap. I will look for them at HAMCATION next weekend.

    XTL 5000 Question

I ran into this once. I forget the fix. Might be change the RX only channel to enable TX. Make sure there is a valid TX freq. Then make sure that "talk back scan" is unchecked. Then go back to RX only. It seems you can't uncheck talk back scan once you set it to RX only so you have to enable...

    Sp50 charger / contacts issue

If memory serves me, that full volume thing can happen when the volume pot solder pads get broken. That also happens when the pot gets broken by hitting the top of the volume control and breaking the pot inside. Dropping them and having them land on the volume knob will do it.

    Sp50 charger / contacts issue

Most of those radios had a diode in series with the side charging contact. Some had a fuse. Probably blown fuse or fried diode. Or just could be broken solder joint. Pop the battery tray out and take a look.

High Gain 800 Antenna for XTS 5000

Is that all? I would expect them to be more than that. I would also expect it to only work really well for one band...

High Gain 800 Antenna for XTS 5000

I hate to start a storm here, but I think this one time I have to. OEM companies WANT their radios to perform better than anyone else's. That has to include the antenna. Why would they sell bad antennas to put on the brand new product they just sold you? My contention is that one...

Programming APX 7000 UHF R-2 VHF with APX CPS

I recall where some of the CPS you had to program the "channel" (mode) as a transmit, set the NAC's and freqs as needed. THEN go back and select RX only. The NAC should stay as set. Cumbersome, but I *think* ASTRO 25 and ASTRO Spectra worked that way. I am pretty sure Astro Spectra worked...

High Gain 800 Antenna for XTS 5000

I hated the dipole also. BUT. they do work significantly better in poor coverage areas. Same with difference between the quarter wave and the half wave. The best thing you can do is when you transmit, get used to having the radio VERTICAL. Too many people seen holding the radio on its side...

C4FM vs CQPSK - Scan Behavior

Having done this for many years, I can tell you that the trace on the left is exactly what I see (and look for) on my Anritsu S412E when analyzing P25 Phase I in basic C4FM. The trace on the right is definitely CQPSK (or LSM) and that trace is similar to what I would be looking for on the...

C4FM vs CQPSK - Scan Behavior

They look like a C4FM and an LSM to me. Why to you think the left one is not C4FM?

    GM300 - MAXTRACK 300

I think the original reason for the "flying lead" going to the circuit board for the speaker was to be able to just EASILY unplug the internal speaker rather than cut the wires in the front panel. That has always been my assumption. As much as I like those old radios (have worked on thousands...
