I'm not planning on controlling the 12V from the ignition switch. I'm just going to use a manual On/Off switch in the 12V source to the scanner.

A remote manual power switch in the 12V line is sufficient. Why do I need to dump the audio into an 8 ohm termination? I plan on connecting a remote speaker to the audio output of the scanner so I can listen to it. No law against that.

It's much worse than that! You can't even hold your phone at a red light or stuck in non-moving traffic!

I think this new law will be challenged soon.

I plan on mounting one of my SDS200's under the front seat, with GPS and a remote external speaker. Problem solved! Typically when in my SUV I only monitor Macomb County, Michigan LE, so I won't have a need to see or touch the scanner while driving.

Maybe consider mounting your antenna on top of the shed instead of the house roof. You're not planning on transmitting CB on that antenna, right?
