Handheld or mobile SSB-capable radio above HF bands?

If you can find one, the classic Kenwood TM-255a VHF multi-mode has FM/SSB/CW capability. https://www.kenwood.com/i/products/info/amateur/tm255455.html

    Coax type help please ?.....

The type of coax depends on the necessary length and the impedance of your radio. The type of coax connectors depend on the type of connector on the radio and the antenna. Most radios require 50 ohm coax. If the run is relatively short (less than 50'), you could probably get away with RG8 or...

    Baofeng New Baofeng HT Problem

If you're trying to monitor non-repeater (simplex) frequencies, such as 146.520 or 446.000, your antenna might not be high enough to hear these "line-of-sight" signals. If you're trying to monitor local repeater frequencies, be aware that many ham repeaters might not have much activity...

    Where does the newbie begin?

Many new hams quickly realize that their inexpensive Chinese handhelds are not the answer to a rewarding amateur radio experience. Limiting your future purchases to mainstream amateur radio brands (Alinco, Icom, Kenwood, and Yaesu) will allow for easier programming and better performance...

    Motorola XPR 4550 antenna

It's not necessary to buy only antennas that utilize the same connector as your radio. You could order coax with different connectors on each end, you could change one of the connectors as required, or you could use a coax adapter or 'pigtail' to convert an existing connector to the appropriate...

Remember your CB radio call sign?

My last FCC CB callsign (early 70's... before CB became unlicensed) was KKG-1832. I had an earlier license (mid-60's), where the alpha characters were KCD, but I don't remember the numerics.

In need of advice on outdoor antenna feasibility

Another factor to consider... Unlike older VHF or UHF conventional radio systems, most 800/900 MHz trunked systems are intentionally engineered to minimize RF coverage beyond the immediate jurisdiction. This is to allow re-use of the frequencies in other communities. This practice, in...

    Wouxun Wouxun KG-UV8D RX Problem

You may have to delete/re-program the channel, making sure that the R-CTC is OFF before saving the channel data. Alternatively, you could re-program the channel with the CORRECT R-CTC (assuming one is actually used for that repeater).

    NXDN and SDS100

As UPC... noted earlier, do you have the appropriate LIST enabled for monitoring (Select Lists to Monitor)? I see in your post that there appears to be no TG's associated with this system. Are you attempting to SCAN rather than SEARCH? I would also add some TG's into the programming, just to...

    scantenna parts

If you're talking about the typical TV-type of passive splitter with one input and two outputs, the problem with them is the amount of signal loss. With most passive splitters, you'll lose at least half of your signal to each device. If you have to connect multiple scanners to a single...

    Pinellas County Question

FYI... The Pinellas county-wide fire dispatch does announce all calls on their "dispatch" talkgroup when they assign the working channel.

    Programming All The NIFOG Channels

Depending on where you live, the actual use of most NIFOG channels will vary from occasional to never. Even where public safety agencies have the channels available in their radios, local procedures (and training) often don't take advantage of such capability.

    GMRS repeater access for non-members

If a given GMRS repeater is listed on MyGMRS.com, there is usually a means of requesting access.

    Home Patrol II Question

I own both of these models. The biggest difference, of course, is in the overall form factors and the ability of the SDS to receive digital simulcast signals. As I understand it, the SDS series was engineered to better deal with the problem of simulcast distortion... something the Home Patrol...

Anytone 878UV No Transmit Audio [BLUE BUTTON]

I missed the talkgroup notation. Like popnokick suggests, you need to program a talkgroup in order to access whatever DMR "channel" you wish to communicate with. Actually, I'm surprised that you could hear the net without a talkgroup programmed. Are you using Digital Monitor mode?
