    DMR in NC

I'm considering buying the DMR license for one of my SDS scanners. I know next to nothing about DMR, and I'm curious how it works functionally. If I have a DMR license, are DMR transmissions heard alongside the P25 transmissions I hear now, or do I have to boot the scanner into some sort of 'DMR...

    ProScan: Official Software Thread

Does anyone have an easy or automated way to save the daily log files from ProScan? I'd like to use the daily hit data for some statistical exercises. Thanks!

    Wake County P25 switch

Yes, import twice, cut and trim twice if you want both Cary and Raleigh systems. I only have the one for Raleigh.

    Wake County P25 switch

If I remember correctly, there was a change where RPD moved to Cary/Wake Simulcast. When I updated my programming, I think I eliminated all the Cary-related talk groups, and possibly the Cary-related frequencies from the list. Experiment with those variables and see what happens.

Need help picking a scanner for New Bern PD

It sounds like my 996XT and 396xt will be relegated to air monitoring in the next few years.

    ProScan: Official Software Thread

Bootcamp is nothing more than Apple's dual-boot partition version of a boot selection during BIOS Post on startup. So I'm running on Windows, essentially. This was my first time getting ProScan to work well after getting rid of Parallels, so I don't have any useful previous experience to...

    ProScan: Official Software Thread

Okay, I will. I have an "unactivated" version of Windows (transferred from my Parallels virtual machine), so I wasn't sure which was the culprit.

    ProScan: Official Software Thread

I don't have a dog in this fight. GUI design is my weekday job, and this is the weekend. It's your software, design it how you see fit. Please see post #7,102 in this thread. I do have a dog in that one. Will you please provide some assistance as to why the instances are running one moment...

    Antenna gain and cable loss

Okay, thanks. Perhaps I'm still getting confused on a maintenance practicality issue. If I'm in a 3rd floor attic, and my coax enters there, then my spark gap arrestor would be located OUTSIDE at that entrance point. If I'm understanding correctly, I'd need a ladder that tall to check and...

    ProScan: Official Software Thread

Okay, I understand what you're saying. Once you're in the software, you're no longer in the scanner, you're in a new environment. You expect behavior consistent with the environment you are in (Windows). Up and down arrows would be appropriate, as would the scroll wheel (like you describe).

    Antenna gain and cable loss

In the 850's. I just checked the map. First, I'm programming the wrong site. Oops! According to the map, the signal range radius ends 2 blocks short of where I am (lol). But I should still be able to get it. (Edited) Try as I might, it's still too far out. :( Oh well. There's plenty of...

    ProScan: Official Software Thread

Question about something I'm experiencing - I'm running ProScan 18.2.1 using Windows 10 (MacBook Bootcamp). Four instances are running, each from a different directory. The computer is connected to each scanner and logging traffic. I step away from the computer to allow traffic to log awhile...

    ProScan: Official Software Thread

As a GUI person, it would be nice if you could click on the menu item or a downward arrow within the menu listing to scroll down. Perhaps there's something I'm missing.

    Antenna gain and cable loss

The next city over has some fairly seedy areas, with something headline-worthy each week. I'm trying to stretch reception to catch the traffic in that area.

    Antenna gain and cable loss

Perhaps I am misunderstanding something on the ground. Any of the grounding-related information seems aimed at Ham sites, so I figured that included scanners. They're talking about perimeter grounds, single point ground panels, common-grounded power at the same spot, etc. I'm not sure I...

    VIPER Statewide Radio System Discussion

Can I get some advice on how VIPER works? I live in NW Raleigh, and there are several overlapping sites according to the RR maps. From those maps, it appears that the following sites overlap my location: - Archdale building (Wake - moderate overlap - is this a new one?) - Camden Ave. (Durham -...

    Antenna gain and cable loss

Yes, not the best for 700-800. It's my first antenna, and I just got a Stridsberg to feed multiple scanners. Perhaps I'll try the Omni-X next, since it's a bit tighter. Ideally, I have one for Airbands, one for the 400-500, and one for 700-800. Room to grow, I guess.

    Antenna gain and cable loss

I used the stock antenna on the radio. I could hear the airport sporadically, but it was very faint. I can hear much more of the airport now. So there was a gain there, but no real gain in the 750-850Mhz range. This was mainly a test prior to placing the antenna outside. However, if I...

    Antenna gain and cable loss

I just installed a Diamond D130j in my attic, as high as I can get it. The antenna has listed a (nominal) gain of 2db (as listed on ScannerMaster). The greatest height I could indoors required a 50ft cable run. I bought a 75' cable just to be safe. If I run a loss calculation of LMR400 between...
