I use to listen to those 50,000 watt powerhouses across the country.
KFI, KNX here in southern California, Ventura Co.
A fair AM (mw) radio will work great and no real long antenna, the on board internal loop is all you need.

LoG from what I read, it works great for LW and MW freqs.
Once you step up much pass 2000 kc and up you loose ground wave.
Just my non inflated $0.02 cents worth.

Like I said before, we used NVIS on fied day a while back. Should be good for all of 300 mi.
We were on 80m.
Works best at 40m I think.
Give it a shot. Good thought lading.

First of all, check to see if you need a loading coil.
I don't think(I could be wrong) it's not only the elements but a coil is needed too.
BTW I am never wrong. HI HI.

Field day we did NVIS at 80meters less than 100 watts.
From So. Cal (Ventura) we worked Oregon to the Mexican border and over to Las Vegas Nv.
Check your loading.

Caught me, 266kc.
Typo. Yes I have been happy with my 390.
Got it new a few years back. The 909 is I think the same radio just Rat Shack put their name on the case.
Works great for MW band.
Good luck.

Took a listen to 226kc.
No surprise, I hear nothing. But wanted to try.
So is your telescopic ant works for LW?
I have a DX390. Same radio. I thought the onboard loop for MW was used.
Ok, see you down the log.

Juse for laughs, I will give a listen from Oxnard Ca.
South of Santa Barbara CA.
I monitor in the evenings, see if my radio shack dx390 can go that low.

FYI. I am hearing a strange signal on 4.450 here in So. Calif.
Almost sounds like a fluttering tone.
I have no strength meter reading.
It's 0400 California time.
Located 60 miles north of Los Angeles.
Thank you for the input.
