    Bluetooth Transmitter

Yep, they are all over ebay. I started with one of the more expensive Schosche ones and it died after a year, so now using a cheap ebay one for $15. Seems to be working pretty well and gotta a backup one when it dies. Now the only thing to be aware of is most of the BT transmitters out...

Can you use Direct Talk with BT headsets? (have more questions too)

So no help with this one? I've done some research and I think the Motorola ic902 is the model with BT I want to check out. Might pick up a i355 too just because they are so plentiful out there. I did come up with another question. I know at some point Nextel & Sprint merged and some phones...

Can you use Direct Talk with BT headsets? (have more questions too)

So, I was doing some reading and came upon some old threads that talked about Nextel Direct Talk (Not Direct Connect) where the phones have the ability to go off network and talk directly over the 900mhz ISM band frequencies. First off I had no idea that some of these iDen phones did that, but...

Long Range Comms on a fixed freq

Yeah, it would work too. It goes over the internet too. You can pretty much run EchoLink from anything with only the basic software. PC, Android Phone, Iphone, iPad, and of course an RF repeater linked in with EchoLink.

Long Range Comms on a fixed freq

Technically if they were going the DSTAR route, even not having a Dstar repeater wouldn't be a deal killer. There is always the DV Dongle to talk through your PC or the DVAP which allows you to use an HT and talk through the DVAP into to your PC and into the internet. No repeater necessary...

    Idea for antenna pole?

The ones I linked in my post on ebay. I have no experience with those directly, but I've seen similar ones at Ham Fests both in Metal and Fiberglass and as AA1LL posted, they make guy rings for them too.

    HT Suggestions

As I posted above, it certainly wouldn't hurt to get an SMA to BNC connector. You leave it on there and its much easier to swap BNC connectors. And if that connector ever wears out, its easy to replace it.

    HT Suggestions

I totally agree with you that screwing in and unscrewing an SMA is probably going to wear things out eventually if you do it enough, but why limit yourself to just Icom when a simple & small SMA to BNC connector can basically make any HT a BNC capable radio. I put this adapter on my Yaesu VX-5...

Amateur Radio High Altitude Balloon launch from Carrollton, GA

As of yet, nothing has shown up and no calls or anything on the payload. We put the word out to many news organizations that picked up the story and posted about a reward if found. 2 meter simplex

The repeater part worked fine. We did a little testing before hand just to make sure we had it setup and it worked fine. It basically just records what it hears and plays it back. There are different settings you can change things and tweak it here and there. The limiting factor is going to...

    2 meter simplex

Yeah, this technically wasn't my balloon launch, just assisted with it. You make a lot of good points and I think some of this stuff we've probably learned the hard way about a few things. I hadn't thought about cross band repeat since I've never owned a HT with that capability, but you are...

    2 meter simplex

We launched a high altitude balloon about 2 weeks back from Carrollton GA that had a simplex repeater on it (https://www.argentdata.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=98). I think we were running an 146.550 frequency which obviously is even more quiet then the normal 520. Almost...

Coweta Co new 700 Site First Talkgroups

ptcdiveops is currently the one that provides the feeds for the for Coweta/Newnan Sheriff/Police/Fire so that's 4 different scanners. Of course with them being on VHF, you could get away with basically any old scanner. So as MTS2000des said, at this point it would require 2 dedicated digital...

    2 meter simplex

I have the 520 simplex programmed in all my radio's and scanner and frequently listen to it and sometimes make contacts on it. I also have a lot of other simplex frequencies programmed in there and listen to those although its even rarer to hear anything on those frequencies.
