I was thinking the patent was only for the LED light that can be different colors for different channels and/or talkgroups...but maybe it was both. Either way, the patent is for it being on the full time the squelch is opened instead of just a short time as I understood it.

Yeah, I won't try to repair it if it won't work with an external speaker. I have a few others CDMs (1250 and 1550). I did check their eBay listings and they have it set as 'no returns' but then in the description they say "if there are any issues, reach out to us first so we can make it right"...

Dual Mode seems to be defaulted on in Kenwood software (D1N, D3N, etc.). Has caused issues for several people, including myself, who don't catch to uncheck that box in the software at first.
