Corona Fire Department - Tone Out Codes

Hello, I've been looking for the tone out codes for Corona FD for a while now and while they once existed on the ScanRiverside forums they have since been removed. I did a public records request and Corona FD Capt Cox was extremely pleasant and quick to respond. Just wanted to share here in...

Looking For A Base Antenna For 39.3 - 39.6 Range

My custom tuned antenna came in from Arrow Antenna, this thing was HUGE. Plugged everything in and the reception is WORSE with this custom tuned antenna than it is with the Diamond D-130J. I've attached pics of both. Man, this is frustrating. Next step is to buy a chimney mount and get...

Legislation: Encrypted radios for News Media

RSO is still issuing Receive-Only radios to members of the press but the latest I heard is that the process is slow about 4-6 months from initial email until receiving the radio. ERICA system is an absolute no right now, but PSEC is another story.

You are correct, I should have specified.

Legislation: Encrypted radios for News Media

I used my NPPA member ID card during the "Holy Fire" incident to get past law enforcement blockades. I was even stopped by Forestry Service several times, they checked my NPPA card then told me to be careful and drove off.

Legislation: Encrypted radios for News Media

Understand and agree with what you're saying. Lots of ways that LE could counter a bill passed forcing them to give anyone with $120 access to their 250 million dollars secured system. Currently, our local Sheriffs (Riverside County Sheriffs) accepts the NPPA card as Press Credentials and will...

Legislation: Encrypted radios for News Media

With an NPPA Member ID Card the California Highway Patrol will let you past the yellow tape. Many other LE agencies in SoCal do the same, but not all. Maybe its different in other parts of the country but here in SoCal its how all the stringers get those shots. The ID Cards also get you past...

Legislation: Encrypted radios for News Media

You obviously didn't read AB-1555 which mandates that the police would be FORCED to provide the press access to their encrypted radio system. And there is no system in place to determine who is "press" or not so I could take a picture of my grass out front, post it to Facebook and call myself...

Legislation: Encrypted radios for News Media

Correct, I believe its $145 to become a member and $20 for an "ID Card" however I will say that this "ID Card" is accepted as press credentials in many if not all SoCal law enforcement including CHP, SBSO, LASD, LAPD...etc and gets you behind the yellow tape at crime and accident scenes. From...

Legislation: Encrypted radios for News Media

I believe in the bill it states that the State Gov will reimburse departments for giving media radios. It also does not specify who exactly is media. I run an online blog site with 50,000 followers and I paid $100 for media credentials from NPPA. Does that mean I qualify to get it... good...

Looking For A Base Antenna For 39.3 - 39.6 Range

I went to Ham Radio Outlet yesterday and paid about $200 for a Diamond D-130J and 50ft of new cable... After the 2hr round trip drive, I got home, spent 45min setting everything up and still having issues picking up our local CHP on 39.6 yet am picking up a much further CHP station on 39.3...

Legislation: Encrypted radios for News Media

With all the police shootings here in Taxifornia and trust in law enforcement at an all-time low, especially as all departments in SoCal move to encryption I could see this bill easily passing. The public wants an independent 3rd party to provide some accountability, this gives them exactly that.

AB 1555 would require police to provide news agencies access to encrypted radio communications.

Interesting read: Local reporters got cut off from hearing encrypted police radios. A new bill could let them tune in again

Any Installers in the Inland Empire?

Does anyone know of an installer that could recommend a proper antenna setup and then perform a clean professional installation for a residential home? I peaked around on Google and Craiglist and coming up short. These are for monitoring low band CHP radios.

Looking For A Base Antenna For 39.3 - 39.6 Range

Hey Guys, Newbie here but been hosting live audio feeds for many years now. I'm struggling to pick up our local Highway Patrol on 39.680 with my discone antenna and would like to find something to give me my strongest chances at picking up the signal for me to stream to Broadcastify...

    Corona PD back to encryption.

Corona PD switched to the RSO PSEC system earlier this year, but had to patch back into their legacy system for the past 6 months due to coverage issues. These coverage issues over the McKinley area have been fixed via adding new towers and thus the legacy VHF patch has been turned off and...

Corona PD officially encrypted as of 3/22/08

Update: PD is still doing site surveys and coverage prediction maps to see if installing a repeater at Grape Hill will resolve the coverage issues over the McKinley area however the current site is at 100% capacity so their trying to work out the details. If they have to build a new site we...
