    Newbie Question regarding computer

I'm looking into SDR since our local agencies have switched to P25 phase 2 with simulcast. My trusty old scanner will no longer cut it. I've done some homework and have an understanding of the hardware I'll need and options for software. My main concern, which is holding me back, is whether I'll...

    Rio Rancho - suitable scanner

This sounds like a good option for my situation, once I get through the learning curve. A couple questions, if you have time - would this be something I need a dedicated computer for, or could I install it on my everyday-use laptop? Does it require a large antenna to be installed in the house...

    Rio Rancho - suitable scanner

Been trying to find a suitable scanner that will work with the relatively new digital system in Rio Rancho. Budget is a factor, and I'm not as tech-savvy as most, when it comes to radio systems, but my old scanner (BC125AT) is getting pretty boring now, since the switch to digital. Found a...

    Rio Rancho - scanner questions.

I have an old chromebook, wonder if that would work? also an even older laptop. I take it I would need a dedicated computer for the Unitrunker or SDRTrunk and RTL-SDR dongles. I'll likely stay clear of the SDS line for the same reasons you mentioned.

    Rio Rancho - scanner questions.

Now that Rio Rancho Police and Fire have gone mostly digital, I will need to upgrade my scanner. I currently have a BC125AT, which is all I ever needed until now. Two questions: 1. Apparently, some scanners don't work well with Simulcast. Can someone tell me if there have been Simulcast issues...

Suggestions please - need to upgrade my scanner

Is there a way to figure out if these are simulcast, before I go ahead and purchase a scanner? From what I gather, some scanners work with simulcast and others not so well. Be good to know ahead of time, if there's a way of finding out

Suggestions please - need to upgrade my scanner

Currently have a BC125AT which is all I ever needed for police/fire in my local city/county. Recently they've switched to a trunked digital system, and I need a scanner that will work for 700mhz phase 1 and phase 2 tdma. Any suggestions? I like my handheld, because I can carry it around from...

    Rio Rancho

Thanks for your reply. The new phase 2 system you mentioned, and the patches cut - does that mean the channels are "gone forever"? Or would I need to buy a more sophisticated scanner in order to receive those? Or program them in as new channels on my scanner? I will work on recording an...

    Database map

When browsing on the database, I see a US map with different colors for various states (yellow, green, gray). Cannot see a legend to tell me what the colors mean. Can someone please let me know what the colors mean? Thanks.

    Rio Rancho

I have a BC125AT and listen to police and fire in Rio Rancho. Lately, some of the channels I have programmed, that worked previously, are now making only clicks and static. The signal strength indicator remains strong on all the channels. I do receive the dispatch channels just fine, but the...

    Question: What do I need?

I now have the BC125AT and am quite happy with it. The hardest part was locating the downloaded file on my computer (took a minute, to locate it under Program Manager). This is a great starter scanner, for the location where I live. Someday, either when Rio goes digital, or I end up "going...

    Question: What do I need?

These are the local channels - do I need to invest in a super expensive/top of the line scanner for these? I'd like something better than a phone app, to be able to receive more channels. Don't mind spending a few extra bucks for decent equipment, but maybe not go high-end right off the bat...
