    18 foot mast

I bought the military 4' sections from ebay. They use them for holding up camouflage. I have an old patio pole in a concrete footing that is used as a pool gate today. It was cut about 4.5' above deck height. Then I used a thick walled galvanized pipe about 4' long as an intermediate pipe that...

    Midland LMR help

LMR programming https://youtu.be/zeJKu2PLwKA This fella has a shop in Mt. Airy, NC. He gives his phone number and email address. In the vid you'll see at least 100 Midland business radiios that he converts to HAM. He says to call with any questions. This is Mike McCoys YT channel. Watch the...

*Radio Shack Store Closing Thread* All posts about Radio Shack closing go here.

As of today, they are open near my house. A friend with his ear to the ground told me RS is just getting an overhaul. They will file for re-organization, with the plan to close a substantial amount of stores and some will reopen re-branded as Sprint stores. Time will tell.

Cool little GMRS mobile introduced by Midland at CES 2015

"MSRP is $149.95, and the units will start shipping in May." There is a quick write up in "Gear Scout" blog Midland introduces new radio to hunting market I'm taking it that they wanted to capture the Recreational Market that travels more and wouldn't care less about repeaters. Hunters and...

    Really Stupid Question

HEHE I knew some one would correct my explanation. And that's okay! I am a member of the EAA(.org) and hear engineers argue over theory constantly. To me, it's all intake and food for thought. What a notion that one is correct all the time. Just for fun, I'll throw in that my new Cobra Base...

Whats the best mobile SSB CB radio?

Just Do It To the first point, you did say you were thinking of Connex or Galaxy. If I'm not mistaken, Connex is a 40 watt radio. Here's a not so secret, little secret. Ranger Electronics makes the boards for Galaxy, Connex, General Lee, SuperStar & of course, Ranger. A couple of those...

Chapter What? I'm wondering if this is going to be like Mother's Cookies and Hostess. Close to reorganize, then reopen a couple months later. Depends on which chapter they file under. If they reduce stores and get rid of the pimple faced burger flippers, they might have a chance. I'm keeping...

    Really Stupid Question

Same answer; different angle of attack. I see a couple questions that are not in alignment, let alone the antenna :p Diddo everyone, I'm just adding annoying information and history. I'm going to attack this like a chef... reverse engineering lol You asked "What is it?". It IS a potentiometer...

Mobile CB antenna as a base antenna?

I just had a flash back... There is a YouTube or three that show how to make home made antennas. If you have a mast to use, don't forget the ground plane radials. I like the fella that used a 102 whip and some radials. Truck stops and the internet both have blocks with stud mounts on the top...

lil wil vs. perm 102" for mobile

Well Jay, I've had dating problems like that too. One chick didn't like my driveway that I tinker on cars in. I told her that she has been known to leave kitchen a mess overnight so what's the difference. She said "The neighbors can see the driveway". I told her to hit the road and make sure the...

    cb radio concerns

Guess not I figured that people would realize that property damage was illegal in every country on the planet and classify this reply as Sarcasm.. Guess not. But then again, why is anyone taking this thread seriously. I mean get real. He's a CB Radio Rambo? He's "The LAW on CB radio"? " I'M...

trying to set up a Base useing a mobile unit

With Radio Shack having sales, I would watch close for a regulated power supply. And as suggested by another member on another thread, get a 20-30 amp power supply. A 5 amp might do it, but you might want some accessories or another radio/scanner in the future. As for the antenna, I did reply...

lil wil vs. perm 102" for mobile

I my humble opinion. Wilson is junk. Wilson was bought by Bar-Jan years ago, along with Astatic, Francis, Browning and a few other companies. In turn they were bought by DAS industries. I have run the Wilson lil wil and the Trucker 2000. Both antennas came apart from the inside. My second 2000...

    Greetings Earthlings

Amazing what you learn with time! I had to sell the Midland VHF 70-1340 because it does not do wide band. I bought a 70-1442B-MM that does. This is needed for narrow band for MURS channel 1-3. Looks the same so I don't need to change the photo in my gallery LOL. I found a silly little vintage...

No Kidding... I'd like to quote everyone here in one way or another. Just 3 months ago, for the first time, I called a corporate office on one of it's employees and his "snotty/don't care anything about what you need" attitude. Jerk in Sepulveda, CA. It's been years since I walked in and a...

    Wilson Lil Wil mag mount

I had a 5' firestick on a mag mount once. It held just fine until I passed an 18-wheeler in a construction zone. Having an older mag mount that broke, I used the magnet under the trunk lid.It worked great! I saw a kid trying to take it one evening and he couldn't get it off. lol So, it made a...

    cb radio concerns

I'd use a Radio Direction Finder to locate where they stop for coffee and donuts, pour some hunters deer piss in their vents and leave a note on the windscreen telling them to stop swearing on channel 19 or there will be more savvier consequences in the future. Disclaimer: Do this only in the...

trying to set up a Base useing a mobile unit

True Mr.McKenna, I like idea of having a few extra amps available. Back in the day, it was common for many to use a Cobra 148 mobile for a base. Then deck it out with a D104 lolly-pop, Motorola external speaker and an Antenna Specialist 5/8th wave base antenna. Allot of the older/retired...
