They'd have no need for an all-band antenna.

    PSRN General Discussion

It's a province wide system with lord knows how many radios. What would you suggest be more affordable? Harris, Kenwood, etc wouldn't be any less.

    OPP antennas

The VHF antenna posted in rneal's post is a Sinclabs SVT-1180-EX. The 700MHz is a Sinclabs SUT-5120.

    MOH communications

Toronto dispatches a lot of their calls by phone when a crew is in the station. I would expect the 149.440 frequency will remain once PSRN is fully implemented. I think there used to be another one used in Niagara for paging in addition to the 149.440 as well.

MURS - Do you use it? How often do you hear traffic?

We don't "officially" have MURS in Canada, but I scan them in my FRS/GMRS scanlist and have heard activity now and then. I suspect it is Americans visiting, or people that have bought radios down south.

    Breaker, Breaker: CB in Ontario

There's a fair bit of activity on the LADD channels these days. Mostly up on 17 but occasionally on the 401 as well.

Yaesu: Yaesu FT-60 next step from UV-5R?

The FT60 is great, but the FT70 is (IMHO) better. It's an updated version with all the same features, but also does their C4FM. The radio physically feels far better in the hand than the FT60 as well. Feels much more rugged (though that's just cosmetic I realize).

New dispatch system for Ottawa paramedics (Not Radio Dispatch)

I had heard ARIS 3 is supposed to roll out province wide once PSRN is implemented. But, who knows.

    Toronto EMS RIDS

It's been awhile for sure! From the best I can tell, they try and keep the vehicles at least in the same quadrant. But, they can move them around as needs dictate. The actual fleet number won't change, but the station isn't set in stone.

    Toronto EMS RIDS

From a previous post... On the vehicles: 8xx = ALS 9xx = BLS On the radio: 2384 = BLS 984 out of 23 station ALS add 40 to station number, so 6384 = ALS 884 out of 23 station The 8xx and 9xx being ALS and BLS doesn't hold true anymore. There are also 4xx and 5xx units. Previously, 5xx units...

Did Russians break NATO encryption ?

I have no dogs in the fight, but if someone is infact able to decrypt whatever you sent, why would they give you the key? What if you are actually trying to get the key for something you shouldn't have and are using this as an end-run-around to do so? If EDP "leaked" parts of its key as a...

If the comms on the old VCOM system they used previously is any indicator, there's nothing "top secret" happening on there. But given that AES is essentially a free option these days, I don't blame them for using it.

    PSRN General Discussion

It appears they're following the same roll out plan as the original FleetNet. Which makes sense, as S/W Ontario would likely have the oldest hardware.

Did Russians break NATO encryption ?

You're assuming they are using AES. You'd think (hope) that they would be, but there's been a lot of less-than-stellar technologies used in this (and other) theaters.

Are there any maritime HF SSB frequencies worth monitoring?

I don't think you'll find anything HF in the Great Lakes. The lakes are well served by land-based VHF sites. This link has all the communications facilities that the Canadian Coast Guard have. https://www.ccg-gcc.gc.ca/publications/mcts-sctm/ramn-arnm/docs/ramn-arnm-2024-eng.pdf USCG only has...

APRS how to keep out of 144.390

If you don't want their traffic being sent out on the wider APRS network, just use a different frequency. APRS is frequency agnostic. You could run it on 900MHz if you wanted to.
  19. E

    Toronto Pearson Fire Department

That's true. The system is set for replacement in the not so distant future, so I'd expect they would go AES at that point.

To confirm, yes they are on the GTAA system. They're fully encrypted (though they bought the discount encryption).
