Are you programming for the new P25 digital system? If not then do that. Secondly, you won't hear law enforcement because they've encrypted. You'll only get fire and EMS, though they may eventually encrypt too.

I see you're in Sioux Falls, which is simulcast. I live in a burb and haven't had any simulcast issues because I'm not between any sites so one site is very strong. If you're in Sioux Falls proper and are in the midst of multiple sites with equal signal, you may experience the simulcast issue...

I was expecting someone to make a claim how rice works miracles. Biggest old wives tale ever. If a circuit has power and water hits it, it's done. If you put a doused device in rice and it works afterwards, it was going to work without the rice because water never got to the powered circuitry.

I switched the Sioux Falls feed to the P25 system within a few minutes of noting they cut-over this morning. They've been testing radios and while it's mostly working they're still shaking out issues as expected.

Not saying it's fact until/unless it happens, but I've now heard from two sources that RC and SF area fire (and EMS?) will encrypt also.

Interesting thought, but privacy of victims/witnesses is one of the reasons they're encrypting, and delaying transmission wouldn't address that concern.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't believe you ever said if you're monitoring the legacy system, which is what I suspect, or the new P25 system. The Huron tower is listed as online on the new P25 system as of yesterday, which doesn't necessarily mean they have switched over, just that it's ready...

That should work fine. If you're hearing nothing, either there is nothing to hear or the control frequencies listed aren't correct for that site, presuming at least one of the talk channels is correct. Are you hearing anything on the old system programming for that site?

Frequencies in the SD Digital system have been will continue to be VHF and Digital. Frequency has nothing to do with whether it's digital or analog. What brand and model of scanner do you have?

No idea how to map out a site, never done that. Wasn't sure whether it's found from FCC records, searching, or a combination of those. Years ago I found a way to look at recent FCC license changes for SD. I'm sure I bookmarked that.. Thanks!

The map for the new statewide P25 digital system shows the prime Sioux Falls tower site as online, yet the tower isn't shown in the database. Does that mean no frequencies are assigned by the FCC, the frequencies haven't been discovered yet, or it won't show up until the cutover? Thanks!
