Kenwood: Does my D710a need repair or am I an idiot?

Thanks for the thorough reply. I will poke around a little bit, but I'm afraid ultimately that I am going to have to send it off to the east coast for repair. I notice there is a repair facility in VA Beach and also one in New York. Is one better than the other??

Kenwood: Does my D710a need repair or am I an idiot?

I love my D710a. But it started doing something this week that I can't figure out how to fix. I'm not sure if I accidentally activated something on the radio or it needs to be sent into Kenwood for repair. The A side of the radio will not receive a transmission unless the squelch is turned to...

New live feed for Indianapolis/Marion Cty MECA

I have tried this feed on six different computers and all seem to work fine. Try this: On Windows XP, Double-click on your little speaker in the bottom right-hand corner of your task bar to open up your mixer settings. If you don't have a little speaker, go to "Start" > Control Panel > Sound...

New live feed for Indianapolis/Marion Cty MECA

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry9530/4.7.0.167 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105) Yes, fortunately or unfortunately, it is a direct audio-only feed coming out of a Radio Shack 2096 scanner. It is the best scanner to use when listening to the MECA system (trust me, I've tried...

New live feed for Indianapolis/Marion Cty MECA

Yes. I, and many others like me, didn't think we'd like it. Turns out, it's a been a great thing. It has brought consistency and clarity to the dispatch channel. It might be annoying, but we no long have trouble understanding what is being said.

New live feed for Indianapolis/Marion Cty MECA

We used to have a live feed of the MECA system, but it went offline (as far as I know). I have taken it upon myself to provide a feed until somebody tells me I can't. FYI - I have submitted an "official feed" to radioreference.com, but in the meantime you are welcome to go to the following link...

    MECA changes coming

Yes, my department-issued radio has been working fine as well. The problem seems to have gone away, anyway. i can only assume it was something in the atmosphere that was causing the problem. Thanks for the reply

    MECA changes coming

OPS channels not working I am confused. I am still hearing dispatch just fine, but none of the OPS channels are coming through at all on ANY of my radios. Is there, or was there some change to the MECA system that I am not aware of?

    Pro-106/197 vs Pro 96/2096 - my tests

HOLY, PEOPLE CAN'T READ WHAT I WROTE, BATMAN!!! This is the second time someone has argued with me because they did not read what I wrote in my review closely. As I mentioned, they were programmed EXACTLY the same. The first programing was the imported programmings directly from the...

    Pro-106/197 vs Pro 96/2096 - my tests

I performed test with Multisite on Sat and Roam, as well as just having it off. As far as control channels are concerned, I always had all of them in there - never just one.

    Pro-106/197 vs Pro 96/2096 - my tests

Actually, they were indeed programed the same. In fact, I performed several extra rounds of tests with changed/altered the programming on the Pro-106/197 to help with it's poor performance compared to the Pro-96/2096. I tried everything, even different antennas. Not once did the 106/197...

    Pro-106/197 vs Pro 96/2096 - my tests

I have to be honest (and a little embarassed to admit), I don't have the SAFE-T system programmed at all. The departments that I work for are all on the Indiana MECA system, so I have no need to have SAFE-T programmed in my scanners. (Truth be told, the only reason I use scanners at all is so...

    Pro-106/197 vs Pro 96/2096 - my tests

Again, these specifics are not important as I was simply reporting on the general performance of these two scanners under the exact same circumstances/location. Yes, ATT was used on and off. Please read what I wrote. No, I didn't leave the NW side. I am sure the results would certainly be...

    Pro-106/197 vs Pro 96/2096 - my tests

I'm sure that's a posibility. That's why I was clear about my location in my review. There are a lot of folks like me in this area that are dealing with the reception issue, whatever the cause might be.

PRO-197/106 vs PRO-96/2096 on MECA tests

I posted this in the Radio Shack scanners section and thought you guys would be interested in seeing it. http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129311

    Pro-106/197 vs Pro 96/2096 - my tests

BEFORE I START THIS REVIEW, I want to make it clear that I am simply posting this because, at the the time I was looking to buy/upgrade to the Pro-197 from the 2096, I could not find the specific onformation I wanted, anywhere, on how these scanners directly compared as far as performance. This...

    Incident Notification Service

I've had IPN for years and it has always been hit-or-miss. Sometimes you won't even get a page until the incident is over. Strange. But like it was mentioned above, it's better than nothing.

Ongoing Changes: Marion Co. MECA System

I didn't know Radio Shack was getting ready to release another radio. Do you have info or links on this? I would love to see what they are up to. ;-)

Ongoing Changes: Marion Co. MECA System

Please dont talk to me like I am an idiot. I've thoroughly read this entire thread at least a couple of times and I am well aware of the steps taken to improve scanner performance, most notably using an external directional antenna. I've done that and then some. I am not a spring-chicken to...

Ongoing Changes: Marion Co. MECA System

I can chime in with a little perspective on this situation. I live at 79th amd Michigan as well and both of my Pro-96's sound terrible when I am in this area. Lots of garbled audio. Whem I leave the area, things improve, although not by leaps and bounds. Near the city, things are clear...
