Using My AOR 8200 MK111, I've been picking up a ton of Shortwave stations with my new copper wire out the window antenna attachment technique.

I was playing around, manually scanning and was surprised to pick up something on such a low frequency, as I don't remember logging anything under 5.95. I had to force the scanner to AM mode, as the AOR is pre-programmed to force USB mode, just below 5.89 MHZ. The signal was strong, around 70% of full strength and the audio was clear.

I emailed their support, asking where the broadcast was coming from, as my internet research tells me that this band is mostly used in the tropics. Also, their broadcasting schedule doesn't list this frequency at all.

Has anybody in my area picked up this broadcast at this frequency? Is this normal to pick up where I am, or was there some atmospheric anomaly earlier? I picked this up from around 3:00 A.M. - 3:15 A.M. UTC.

Does anybody know where the signal was transmitted from?

Are you also getting them at 4.84? I'm not sure how accurate my radio's digital readout is, but for me, the signal was strong from 4.837 - 4.84.
Yes I do. When referring to frequencies in shortwave, we use kiloHertz rather than megaHertz. So instead of 4.84mHz it would be 4840kHz.
The vast majority of shortwave AM broadcasts operate exactly on the 10 or 5 kHz. Examples-4840kHz, 9410kHz, 7575kHz 9435kHz etc.
The rare ones like a couple out of Asia you will find on an off frequency like say 3912kHz or 4557kHz (Korean).
So in short, all your findings will be right on the 5s or 10s.

Thanks for the frequency and terminology advice. I'm new to this hobby and am having a ton of fun with my new AOR - I've only had it for 2 weeks.

Good-have fun-that radio of yours gets SSB too so you can fish around for HAMs, aero stuff, military, etc.
Generally USB you can slow-tune between 4000-5000kHz, 6200-7000kHz, 7900-9100kHz, 10000-11500kHz for official stuff. Sometimes in LSB in those bands you can run across foreign transmissions too (boats, mil, drug runners etc.)
but use those links I gave ya-they do make stuff more interesting.
