Are there any SW stations that play music that I should be able to receive in Houston Texas? Don't care what kind of music it is.

You may have some luck with Radio Rebelde on 5025 or Brasil on 11780-- Rádio Nacional da Amazônia. A good speaker helps.

RTM Sarawak Malaysia romps in here first thing in the morning up 0900local/2000z on 9835kHz - great signal - usually music.

I was picking up 11780-just barely about 22:00 zulu, but didn't hear music. Just talk in Spanish(I think it was Spanish). Do they just play music at certain times?

In the 0200-0500utc hours (say from about 8-11PM your time) WTWW on 5085kHz plays some cool old school stuff-a mix of rock, country, motown etc.
try Radio Romania 0300-0400utc on 9730kHz-I have caught some interesting contemporary "club" music there.
Radio Australia, Radio Japan, Radio New Zealand, Voice Of America, BBC, etc all play music at some points during the week. You can google for their schedules.

You might try Amazonas around 0300Z, mostly music with commentary in Portuguese. My bedside radio does ok, but only on good propagation nights do I get a really listenable signal on 11780.
Of course, this is on a Tecsun PL310 and 10 feet of wire. Rebelde might be strong at your location, playing Cuban music and Latin pop. They have literature reading, lonely hearts programs, and awful long speeches also.

Last night conditions were quite good here, and Brasil sounded nice, with a lot of music. Even though the Cubanos do play some good music, sometimes it has a bit much Fidelity.

OK thanks. I'll be listening on the freq's at the times mentioned.
In your evening time from about say 6-11PM, tune around in the following bands and see what you can find:
4840kHz
5000-6200kHz
7250-7850kHz
9200-10000kHz
11500kHz-12130kHz
13500kHz-13850kHz
15000kHz-15850kHz
17500kHz-17850kHz

the bands in blue are generally more for daylight time, but try them anyway-you'd be surprised how well you can get broadcasts there at night-like Radio New Zealand, Voice Of Korea, Radio Australia, China Radio Int'l etc.

I did some listening tonight. I can't pick up much in the apartment just mostly static and noise. Went out to the car. Rolled the window down and stuck the built in telescopic whip out the window and it did OK. Heard some interesting music on 5025 and 11780 from 3:30-4:00z.

I'll second ridgescan's recommendation for WTWW 5.085.

WWCR has a blues show that plays at the following times Central:
1:00 am Saturday, 4.840 MHz
1:00 am Saturday, 3.215 (yes, same time slot, different transmitter)
2:00 pm Saturday, 12.160
6:00 pm Friday, 9.350
7:00 pm Friday, 4.840 (just on the first Friday each month)

Also, they have a country music hour ("World Wide Country Radio") at 1:00pm Saturday on 12.160, immediately preceding the blues show.

As always, times and frequencies are subject to change. They publish regular updates to the schedule at their web site WWCR.com | Home - WWCR Shortwave, Nashville, Tennessee, USA

I'd like to pick them up too - got some times in UTC please.

I found a good one tonight! On WWCR 4840 from 1-2am central I caught the Last Radio Playing program. I tuned in about 1:15. A few minutes later I decided to record it. By the time I got the cables sorted out and connected the SW to one of my cassette decks the program was halfway over. Sometimes it came in strong and sometimes there's periods of just noise on the recording. I'm going to tune in to it next Friday night for sure!

+5 hours difference for UTC. e.g., 2pm US Central Daylight Time is 19:00 UTC. Next show is coming up in just under 5 hours.

The frequencies shift as the days lengthen, and sometimes the times shift too as WWCR re-juggles its schedule. Their web site has a downloadable pdf of the schedule that's updated roughly monthly.

What time and what days does that program air on 5085?

Usually at 9pm Central. This may shift with the seasons. Their site is non-specific about this. Also some nights it preempted by "The QSO Show," a ham radio news & talk show.

At 11pm on weeknights they have Midnight in the Desert live. Not a music show, it's paranormal talk, but a good ghost story at bedtime is always kind of fun.

If you allow me Martin, I think majoco was gently suggesting everyone to use UTC time format when describing all things "when" so we can all be on the same page at the same time.
