I've heard about this, but never knew what it sounded like - here's a sample, and it's a rather ugly sound...(from Larry Van Horn)

The only cheap package that I know of that supposedly handles this mode is Sigmira. I' guessing here, but I suspect the big expensive ones like Krypto500 can also do it (although it appears the Hoka packages can't...). You can find the link for that at the UMC page in my sig.

There's no guarantee that even if you could decrypt the messages, they would be anything sinister or even useful. Circuits are kept open with dummy traffic so that there is no upsurge in messages if there really is an incident. We had to send fully encoded and encrypted data on a regular basis from ships at sea and get similar replies back from the shore stations - some of the info was useful - we usually got the football results on Saturdays!
