From what I read and my experience, it seems that a powered hub won't correct the issue.

Where are you getting the connection issue? From the SDR Sharp side? What errors to you see?

Does SDR Sharp connect then crash or does it run for awhile and stop?

Just a couple of thoughts.
Since this is all being done over TCP, it might be a network problem. If SDR Sharp loses the data stream it will potentially hang up.

After many hours of fooling with the Pi, I found that it can be a bit cantankerous. When I first started experimenting with it, I was having all kind of weird problems. It turned out it wasn't happy with my SD card. Putting in a new one fixed it right up. So, you never know what might be going on.

As far as the turbo mode is concerned, it only kicks on when the Pi deems necessary. There is a little indicator on the lower right corner you can mouse over to see what frequency it is running at.

The only other program that I am aware of that can use the RTL sticks over TCP is SDR-J
However, is not as easy to work with as SDR Sharp in my opinion.

Well I'll be, it works with a powered USB hub.

You know overall I am beginning to think the R-PI is not worth it. Sure it's cheap $35 for the Pi, then $20 for a good power supply and USB cable, $20 for a big SD card, now $35 for a powered USB hub and power supply.

That is slightly more than half the cost I have in the mini-ITX system I built for my streaming server for maybe less than 1/4 of the performance.

Good morning ,

I'm actually going for the inverse setup; I want to plugin the dongle in my PC, run tcp_ip and decode on my Raspberry (and also on my tablet) using gHDSDR, but none of them want to connect to the SDR-server over wifi to my PC, guess that is more a networkconfiguration error than anything else ?
Thanks for you all your insight and constructive remarks, love the forum !

can you verify if your firewall is enabled, can be found under control panel -> windows Firewall.

If disabling the firewall (all 3 of them) fix your issues I recommend you re enable them and perform a port opening instead.

Hi , and thanks for the fast replies , I don't think it's a firewall issue;
When running rtl_tcp console in a cmd prompt (from the PC side(win 7)) - when i open a browser on the tablet pointing to 192.168.0.2:1234 the console starts counting, exactly as any other client on an other device.when I do that. It seems there is a prob with the glSDR running on the client (tablet)-side, the polling from the Android yields nothing... although the menu SERVER IP's function well (the nacap.ca server works great in master mode), polling my local ip gives rx0 unknown, host unresolved ??
Thanks for helping me out, I see some other users have no prob running on ICS A500 (have glSDR version 28, tried with 25 too) ?

Rtl-tcp look to be not compatible with glsdr.
See the link to the ghpsdr3-alex project who have created the glsdr

I've picked up a powered usb hub tonight and it fixed my problems. Now when I start rtl_tcp I get

Found 2 device(s).
Found Rafael Micro R820T tuner
Using ezcap USB 2.0 DVB-T/DAB/FM dongle
Exact sample rate is: 1000000.026491 Hz
Tuned to 161000000 Hz.
listening...
Use the device argument 'rtl_tcp=192.168.1.215:1234' in OsmoSDR (gr-osmosdr) source
to receive samples in GRC and control rtl_tcp parameters (frequency, gain, ...).

I am setting one dongle up for vhf and one for hf using the upconverter.
So far so good. The two seem to work fine, just not at the same time. I lowered the sample rates of each and tried to run two instances of sdrsharp but they choked out, and I am not really going try to fix that problem.
I start two instances of rtl_tcp, each with different ports, and using the -d option to select which device. In my dongle 0 or 1. Then in sdrsharp I just change the port number to select which dongle to listen to.

Dont know if this was adressed but i solved alot of the RPi errors by lowering the sample rate under configuration. Is there a way to have the rtl_tcp to auto-start/connect and tunnel out of network? I want to put these up in remote locations where i wont be able to tunnel into the network from my server and need the client to tunnel out.
