I received my RTL2832u with the r820t tuner, and so far working with it with SDRSharp - I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by the performance of this $19 dongle - even with the stock antenna.

I purchased this dongle here on Amazon, and it arrived pretty quickly:

Amazon.com: NooElec TV28T v2 USB DVB-T & RTL-SDR Receiver, RTL2832U & R820T Tuner, MCX Input. Low-Cost Software Defined Radio Compatible with Many SDR Software Packages. R820T Tuner & ESD-Safe Antenna Input, Guaranteed: Everything Else

Here is what it looks like hooked to my WinXP decoding machine.

What's the frequency range of that one? The white ones nooelec was selling on ebay do 64-1700 MHz.. Good for most applications except if you want to play in HF.

I can tune mine from around 9710 kHz to 2.1 GHz with SDR#. Whether that entire range is actually usable is another story.

Where do I find rtl_test.exe ?

I have the same setup working great. One thing I can not locate is the
Windows file 'rtl_test.exe'

I know this a stupid question but I can not locate it in my SDR# installation.
I have searched the net and find users telling you how to use it but where is it?

Thanks in advance.

Using SDR#...my white E4000 does fine below 30 MHz with the 100MHz upconverter.

But the 820T wins hands down with RTL1090 over the E4000. On average, I can track 12-20 airplanes with the 820T vs around 7 with the E4000, both using the stock antennas. And I get way more Mode-S data from the planes I do track with the 820T.

The R820T chip based dongles are much better for ADS-B (RTL1090) and as a control receiver for voice in Unitrunker with SDR#. My E4000 based dongle has been relegated to a signal receiver parked on a control channel in Unitrunker with SDR# where it does a fine job.
