Richland County Sheriff

New to all of this so please forgive me. I would like to be able to listen to the Richland County Sheriff office feeds. I "graduated" both fo their Citizens Academy classes and would like to keep up/listen in. What is a good low cost scanner I can purchase and be able to do so?

Richland Co. Sheriff just switched over to digital talkgroups on the Palmetto 800 system in the last couple of weeks. There probably isn't a "good low cost" scanner available for monitoring these digital talkgroups, based on most people's definition of "good" (current, not used, up-to-date features) and "low cost" (less than $200).

A brand new, current model digital scanner will cost at least $300, more if you purchase programming software, which most people feel is necessary. You can look to the used market, but as with most things, "buyer beware."
