When passing through the Charleston area several times over the last month or so, I set my digital scanners to monitor the trunked radio systems at the Charleston Air Force Base near North Charleston/Charleston International Airport and the Naval Weapons Station Charleston in Berkeley County. As I understand it, these two installations have merged to form the Joint Base Charleston.

It appears that each site still operates separate P25 trunked radio systems, with CAFB operating on 406-409MHz, and NWS Charleston operating on 380MHz. NWS Charleston has been confirmed to be part of the larger DoD P25 system 14C, which has an extensive listing in both the RR database and the RR wiki. There is no DB entry for the CAFB system, but based on the talkgroups that I found to be active, I'm guessing that it is part of, or linked to, the 14C system also.

Active talkgroups on both systems are in the 286xx and 287xx range.

If anyone with a digital scanner is close enough to either of these installations to monitor the systems, I would be interested to learn what the active control channel frequencies are, and of course identify any of the talkgroup uses. Also, if someone can confirm the system ID for the Charleston AFB system, that would be most helpful. I will plan to make a DB entry for it, but I need an accurate system ID first.

Frequencies for the CAFB system are:

407.9625
407.7625
407.5625
407.3625
407.1625
406.9625
406.7625
406.5625
406.3625
406.1625

Thanks

Brian
