Does the Spartanburg county sheriff's department use encrypted radios now? I've been trying to setup my scanner after several years and I'm not hearing anything from them anymore.

They use the Palmetto 25 trunking system now, which is digital.

They generally do not use encryption. I listen to them every day.

PM me if you'd like some help with your scanner.

Hey Brian,

Just curious....Are you still able to listen to Spartanburg Co PD's on P25? I used to not have any problems. Now, even after refreshing the database, I can't hear a thing. I am using a BCD536HP. Greenville/Greer seems ok, but still too quiet for a Friday night. Just wondering if they went encrypted in the last month or so.

Thanks for any feedback

Yes indeed. Sheriff and Town PDs (less Spartanburg PD) are on P25 talkgroups on Palmetto 800, Spartanburg Site, in the clear.

Spartanburg PD is on their UHF channel, analog, in the clear.

No additional encryption that I am aware of.

Deprecated means no longer used. The SO is on the Palmetto 800. They no longer use the UHF. Spartanburg PD uses the UHF and is marked as such. There is no need for changing anything unless thy were to STOP using the Palmetto 800 and revert to UHF, which is NOT going to happen.

Yep, as milf said, those are the old old UHF frequencies that were used by Spartanburg SD and Town PDs many years ago. Spartanburg still maintains the licenses, so that's why they stay listed in the database. But the SD has been using Palmetto 800 for 20+ years, and the town PDs switched over 5+ years ago.

I heard rumors of some of the town PDs wanting to move back to UHF to save on the monthly Palmetto 800 service cost. GSP Airport did that after a year or so. But Greer just gave up on UHF and moved to Palmetto 800. You never know what may happen in the future.

But for now, P25 talkgroups on Palmetto 800 is where you'll hear their comms.
