Howdy y’all,
I have heard numerous times on the site in Lexington county a beeping noise at around 700 Hz. As I recall, it has happened on the SCHP Lexington talkgroup. Anyone know why it does this?

Maybe. I’m using a Motorola XTS5000 to monitor the system, so I don’t know if it comes across a scanner or not.

If it appears for 1 second every 20-30 seconds, it sounds like you're hearing what many law enforcement systems use as a "10-3" (radio silence) marker... typically it is used to "hold the air" and keep the channel open while an officer is investigating an unknown situation. It usually lasts for a brief period (in terms of 1-2 minutes) in most cases until the officer reports all is ok.

Oh yes, Channel Markers are quite plainly heard on scanners just like commercial radios.

That is the channel hold tone - someone pressed their emergency button and held traffic between dispatch and that user. It happens "often enough" that if you are in a busy area - such as Lexington County - you will hear it every so often.

It is a very common occurrence. I usually hear it around 1900 local time some nights, and through the night sometimes.
