Narrow band?

I just her my sheriff dispatch telling one of the fire people that they were going to NARROW BAND tomorrow.

Does anybody know what he means by narrow band?

Thinks will probably work without any changes (although their audio level may be lower). If your scanner supports it (many do) you may want to reprogram their frequencies to use narrow-band FM (NFM is often what it's called), which may restore the audio level and prepare you for the future when the FCC starts allowing licenses to use the new channels the narrower bandwidth is supposed to open up.
