Can someone help me figure out what is causing my audio to be crappy and have background noise.

Here is my setup
Windows XP
Dell Onboard audio
Proscan software
3.5mm stereo cable
780xlt scanner

I have tried to change the soundcard to a cheap usb card and have the same background noise.

It is very annoying to listen to.

Thanks

It sounds like the sound card is over driven. Turn down the scanner audio to about 40%. If using Line In, I would use near 100%. If using Mic In, I would use 10%. You may have to play with it. Use the ProScan loopback to test.

thank you for your quick reply.

I will try to change the volume and play with that a litte.

I dont have speakers hooked to the computer.... i will have to buy some.

I figured it was something rather simple. I dont have much experience with audio from streaming or recording via computer.. It has been a learning experience.

Bob is exactly right. I checked the waveform in an audio editor, and your scanner is over-driving the card.

As for the background noise, what are you using for an antenna?

Getting a streaming feed to sound good is indeed a learning experience, but it is also a worthwhile one. You'll figure it out. Hang in there! :D
