Is there a Pi3 Borodcastify Image anywhere?

Rtl-sdr gets mixed reviews on the pi3. Some have made it work, for others it has been a complete failure. I am in Category 2.

I got my first Pi machine yesterday (never touched one before), after 3 hours I scratched the idea of using the RTL-SDR, could not get it to work following the WIKI word for word.

Started over using the USB sound card and got it working my first try (after finding this thread).

I am just waiting for my cheap scanner WS1025 to get here Saturday, as I don't want to dedicate my WS1098 for just 1 analog channel stream.

Personally, I think I would have gone the used scanner route for that.

It doesn't work word for word (the last time I tried anyway),
Replace the instructions for installing the rtl-sdr software from osmocom with:
git clone https://github.com/keenerd/rtl-sdr/

It took me many months to get it working well the first time. It takes a lot of patience and tweaking for each setup.

Yes, that's a good deal. Not much advantage to purchasing a used one in that case.

So my only remaking question is,....

Is there any way to see a visual on the pi device that the stream is active?

Maybe a window with stream uptime or something?

If you are providing a BCFY feed, just set yourself up for FEED DOWN alerts and trust that if you don’t get one that all is fine. My experience with darkice is that it is VERY reliable. The majority of the downtime cones from ISP interruptions.

No, I don’t know of a good visual means of confirming operation. At the command line you can type top and that will return a list of running processes, one of which should be darkice.

There is a companion program called darksnow which is a GUI interface to darkice, but I have found it troublesome.
