Hello I’ve looked around for information on this and feel stupid asking but, is there any benefit to programming both transmit and receive frequencies in a scanner?

The old Detroit Police UHF repeater system allowed more than one user to talk at the same time on the same repeater. Someone told me that NYPD had/has a system like that also. Does anyone know what the name of that technology is called? some kind of full-duplex something? I assume that 2...
