gps power supply

I just purchased a 536 a couple of weeks ago. I'm just getting up to speed with it, but have been pretty happy. I also purchased a BC-GPSK to use when traveling. The problem is when I put the scanner in the car it doesn't power up. The attached GPS does. I've tried the other standard 12V adapter...

I currently am using a BCD996XT Uniden scanner and wanted to get a GPS receiver for it after doing my research on it, but I also wanted to power it from the scanners DB9 connector, so with some help from a friend, I came up with this design and it works! Hopefully it will work with any scanner...
