MTEARS UHF Link System

Does anyone know the exact frequencies for the MTEARS UHF Link System in Middle Tennessee?
I do know that the PL tone is 107.2 to access the system.
Can anyone help a fellow Ham?

I have heard that MTEARS is looking to expand into KY & more in the state, possibly connecting to the East Tennessee linked repeater system. The repeater near Jackson is going to be linked to the system soon. Has anyone heard where the new repeaters will be located?

MTEARS Information

Information on the MTEARS system can be found on our web site: http://www.mtears.org
There are no plans to expand into KY, however we already have 2 repeaters close to the KY line located in Dover, TN and Gallatin, TN that give coverage for mobiles about 30 miles along I-65 North and 45 miles up I-24 West. Base station coverage is of course better than that.

The link will be added to Jackson soon. The repeater is already on the air there, and the site will remain the same. We are looking at possible sites near Overton Co., which will again give coverage into South Central KY. We are also looking at expanding coverage in East TN along the I-75 corridor between Chattanooga and Knoxville.

Also, look for a frequency change at the Lobelville site sometime in the near future. There is a MAP on the MTEARS web site that stays current with the changes.

I believe the Hamilton Co frequency is 443.125 + 107.2, at least that's where I heard it Monday night.

we are working on linking the Jamestown TN 443.625 in to mtears net work. .. we had some trouble hope to have it working in the next month or so.

I have heard that mtears may be joining the east tennessee network...is this true? A statewide linked net would be great, keep us informed and inform east tennessee when the SHTF here

They must have had some problems last night. I couldn't hear anything on any of the area repeaters. They were in and out of the Hamilton Co area repeater.

The 444.600 machine in Cookeville took a direct lightning strike 3 weeks ago and is currently out of service.

I have heard talk on MTEARS about putting up more repeaters. As far as hour area, Jackson is the closest one I know of. 73 from KJ4UPD

Wow! Old thread...

I didn't know what MTEARS was... until they resurrected a repeater on Bald (Viking) Mtn in Greeneville TN and hooked it up to MTEARS.

I hope they fix it soon; it sounds terrible.

When one of the other local repeaters keys up, it bleeds over to the MTEARS repeater, and even when it doesn't, it still sounds awful.

Again, I hope they fix it soon...

I visited the web page. There are questions that are months old that are unanswered. The site is filled with spam. Are we talking about the same site? The only thing I could find is a diagram with repeaters throughout the state but no other useful information. I may have missed it.

When I initially googled mtears I got that link and this thread in the forum.

More recently I found this Amateur Repeater NQ4Y 145.410 MHz, Echolink 2043 and MTEARS WX - Coalmont, TN - Listen Online or NQ4Y 145.410 MHz Echolink 2043 and MTEARS WX Repeater Live Audio Feed

That actually sounds good; the local 441.850 sounds over driven.

Big problem with MTEARS now is that repeater owners are getting tired of the politics in the system and some are considering pulling the remote link so the UHF repeaters can only used locally but connect during an event.

What is happening here in district 6, we are getting a linked UHF system specifically for this district. I would recommend all other districts do the same. It is primarily for county EMA offices in the district to stay in contact with each other during severe weather, natural/unnatural disasters and things like that.

HF Winlink seems to be the best venue for that. MTEARS was established initially for Skywarn liaison to the NWS from county Skywarn groups. Helps in tracking storms as they progress across the state and allows the relay of important data to NWS from those who do not have access to NWS Chat. And when not in response mode makes a nice talk about system. This past weekend though at the AUXCOM exercise the order of the day was use of Winlink to pass traffic.
