Northern Williamson County Floods Bring Governor Response.
Friday, Sep 11, 2009 @08:33pm CDT
Governor Perry has activated state resources as severe weather threatens Texas communities.
IH-35 closed temporally near the town of Jarrell because 10 inches of rain fell causing intense flooding in the northern parts of Williamson County.
Because of additional rain in the forecast for the central Texas area going into the weekend Governor Perry activated state search and rescue capabilities. “As rainfall continues, the state is taking precautionary measures in the event assistance is needed,” said Governor Perry.
Recourses activated include Texas Military Forces and the Texas Task Force 1 (TTF1). By Saturday morning, the following personnel and resources will be prepositioned along the I-35 corridor in the flood area:
•70 Texas Military Forces personnel
•30 Texas Military Forces high profile vehicles
•2 Texas Military Forces UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters and 2 TTF1 swift water rescue teams in Austin
•2 Texas Military Forces UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters and 2 TTF1 swift water rescue teams in San Antonio
The State Operations Center is activated and working National Weather Service to monitor the continued rainfall.
