Does anyone know what the TXDOT HERO (roadside assist crews) units in Austin are using for communications?

Txdot has a whole block of talk groups somewhere around the 1Dxx range.

The way back machine seems to recall they used to be on the analog LCRA system, but it's been known to be wrong.

That was the old courtesy patrol program that disappeared for a while and has now returned in a different form. I'll keep looking.

Nextel no longer exists. If they are using PTT over cellular, it's via an app on one of the major carriers (most likely AT&T or Verizon.)

Watched the video. Looks like either PTT over cellular (if so, nothing that looks familiar), or Bluetooth microphones for mobile units (IMO more likely). There are several MFR's of BT mics/speaker mics, so maybe the mobile and the mic are different MFR's? Do these guys have a talkgroup on the local DTRS?

To add a twist, with all the new POC to DTRS products popping up maybe it's DTRS mobiles mounted in the units and POC out of the trucks? Currently the cellular and "traditional" radio worlds are merging fast. Judging by the pimped out motorist assist trucks they've got a budget so who knows.

Side note...noticed the chromed out Cobra cb in the console of the truck featured.

Austin Hero radios

They are using Verizon EPTT for the moment.

It is a horrible service! but so is ATT's, Sprints, Zello, Kodiak or any of the cell PTT apps.

Cell phones were just not made to be ptt.

The Hero folks will be using APX1000 portables and APX1500 mobiles on GATRRS.

They're having some deployment delays.

You won't be able to listen unless you can crack AES encryption. :)
