06 Tahoe with FT-857d Remote Kit

I got an FT-897 new back in Oct 2011 and never used it for anything but mobile HF comms., I found it to be cumbersome and couldn't find a good mounting option with the way my Tahoe's seats are set up.

I knew pretty quickly I should have gotten the FT-857d instead, as its smaller size and remote head option
would be more conducive to my needs as a mobile-only operator. After almost 4 months of dealing with a concrete-block sized radio on my armrest, I bit the bullet and bought the 857 to replace the 897. Here are some pics of the setup. I do plan to neaten it a bit more, but
this will do for now.

The mount the remote kit is on is an old panavise stand which has reincarnated over the years from being
a mobile phone cradle stand in the late 90's to being a tablet pc (for GPS) stand, to now being a easily movable HF head bracket which keeps the VFO knob in comfortable reach without having to take my eyes off the road.

Yaesu 857D

I've had my Yaesu FT-857D in my mobile installation in the past two vehicles I own. Currently, it's mounted in a Jotto Desk "Lazy L" near the top of the console. It sits on a "blank" frame piece attached with heavy-duty velcro product. A small hole was drilled to facilitate the control cable behind the head. It is an excellent mobile rig on all Amateur Radio frequencies. I'm currently using it as my primary UHF/VHF/HF mobile.

Updated 2006 Tahoe with FT-857 Remote

It's been a while since I last uploaded my install pics, but heres an update.

Added my Ram Mount and Gamber Johnson Pandock for the CF-29 Toughbook.

I use Verizon tethering for internet connectivity.

As requested, here are some pics of the antennas also. On the roof is a 1/4 wave VHF

for Mutual Aid, HEAR system, 2-Meter, etc. and a 1/4 wave 800 (not currently in use).

On the hatch is a Yaesu screwdriver antenna ATAS-120A for HF 40 meters through 70 CM.
