From CSP PIO
The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a vehicle pursuit and crash related to a shooting that occurred on Saturday, October 20, in Colorado Springs.
At approximately 6 p.m., a Trooper traveling northbound on I-25 near Monument observed a green Honda Accord matching the description of a vehicle associated with a shooting incident earlier in the day. Near milepost 172, the Trooper activated his patrol vehicle's emergency lights and attempted to contact the Honda, but the vehicle accelerated and fled on northbound I-25. After approximately two miles, the Honda crashed in the highway median near Tomah Road.
The driver, described as a black male wearing a white tank top and black jeans, fled the scene on foot. Troopers and Douglas County Sheriff's deputies pursued the driver but were unable to apprehend him after an extensive search of the area.
Four occupants who remained in the Honda after the crash were taken into custody for further investigation of crimes related to the pursuit and shooting incident. At this time, the Colorado State Patrol has not filed or recommended charges against the four passengers. Charges related to the pursuit and crash are pending against the driver.
Contact the Sergeant Kern of the Colorado Springs Police Department at
719-444-3128 for information on the driver's possible identity, pending charges against the Honda's driver and/or occupants, and information on the shooting incident that preceded the pursuit and crash.
I-25 was closed briefly in both directions immediately following the crash. The southbound lanes were opened shortly thereafter, while the northbound lanes remained closed for approximately 1.5 hours during the ensuing pursuit and crash investigations.
No further information is available.
