Plus the Pro-2096 is a base/mobile scanner, the Pro96 is a handheld. You don't buy a Pro96 if you want a base unit.

guess they want to get rid of stock prior to offering the new upgrade version and Pro-2096.
Hmmm, in the above, the first fifteen words from my previous are about the handheld, the last two tail off to the base.
If this aging mind serves me correctly, the v1 Pro-92 faced similar problems at this point in the market. Many in stock and on shelves in stores across this and other countries. A brand new base/mobile (lets see...what was it, ah yes, the Pro-2067 with an improved firmware) was about to hit the shelves. Equally, upgrades for the V1 were offered and a Pro-92A, and soon B, with this new firmware was about to hit the shelves.

I wouldn't read anything into this.
Many similarities in this and the previous dilemma for Radio Shack, I'd put more into today’s sale then you seem to expect.
Now, having said that, I'll likely be an early owner of the 2096. But, I was dumb enough to keep my V1 as is, and soon purchased one 2067 and later another for the 92 to feed. I'll likely never go past the current firmware in my 96, thus remaining stupid. But alas, I don't need the 96 upgrade either. Nor have I ever missed the true good features of the 92V1, one of them, I-Call.
