10 Meter beacon log

I'm starting my log of 10 meter ham beacons heard. Just a simple list to see how propagation develops this year. I'll do the same for 6 once I get my antenna back up. These heard at home with a simple dipole. Others later may be logged from the car.

I heard one beacon yesterday out of 5 land while in the car. Not too loud so didn't get the call through all the noise. Pretty lousy start to the season!

Band is open a bit today. All heard with a 3ft whip in the car on IC706mkIIg. All less than S1. See photos of portable location under Shortwave listings here in RR.

Add: Just looked up the K6FRC beacons http://k6frc.10mbeacons.com/ double hop E's to California from here and I've heard #1, #2, and #3 so far. Cool!

Plenty of beacons again today. All the usual suspects as listed above. NOBODY talking in the phone band though. Grab that mic. and make some noise!! Start on 28,400 +/- 5khz. Call CQ !

Htx-10

Hi everyone,
I just bought a used HTX-10 from a friend that had passed. I have a technician license and know my restrictions. I'm trying to listen to 10 meter becaons but this radio doesn't come with CW. It just has USB LSB AM and FM. Am I still able to listen for beacons? If I'm able to how? BTW I have a mobile antenna set-up on my air conditioner unit, using my HTX-10 as a base since I dont have a car. Any information would be of help.

you may our may not be able to hear any beacons due to band conditions not being prime right now, listen in USB mode, the filters are kinda wide but you can copy the beacons. I have a HTX-10 and have made lots of good contacts when 10 is open with a home made vertical dipole and my home made inverted V

welcome to the world of HF, and 10 vertical is usually used for local contacts and horizontal for distance, although with DX contacts in reality antenna polarity doesn't matter, I worked E. Europe with a vertical.

Right. As stated, tune in USB and don't be discouraged if you don't hear something every time you try. Whenever you go by the radio, turn it on and do a quick scan across the band. Some times you will hear nothing, some times you will hear a few weak beacons or stations in the USB portion of the band, other times the band will be *WOW!*.

Your radio and antenna should be okay, if the band is open to you, then you should hear something. If it's a Saturday or Sunday and you're hearing lots of contacts going on in the SSB part of the band, then tune across the top end, where the FM frequencies are. You might hear some simplex or repeaters on FM.

Just be patient and keep trying!
