    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

hello all,

I am trying to get some information on the so called 1011 test pattern that is used to make BER measurements. I would like details on the 1011 pattern it self. Any documentation on it would be helpful. I have searched online and not found any details on it. I would like to know what kind of test pattern it is? What is the length of the frame, etc?

The 1011 pattern used in the testing of Motorola Astro radios in digital mode is a part of the P25 standard and can be found in the ANSI/TIA-102.CAAA document:
"Digital C4FM/CQPSK Transceiver Measurement Methods"
in section 1.3.3.7 Standard Symbol Patterns:

a) Standard Tone Test Pattern:
This test pattern yields a 1011 Hz tone at reference level at the receiver VOCODER.

Thank you for the response. I am waiting to get my hands on the ANSI/TIA-102.CAAA and so I hope it would be very detailed in the description of the 1011 test pattern. Do you have any information on how long the 1011 test pattern should be sent and collected to determine a statistically valid measurement? In other words, if I was to test the BER at various locations and distances, for what amount of time should I measure the 1011 test pattern at a given location?

If your interest is based on conducting a coverage acceptance test of a new P25 system or to characterize an existing system, the information you are looking for regarding BER testing, locations, number of samples, etc. can be found in TIA TSB-88.3 Part 3: Recommended Methods for Technology-Independent Performance Verification.

Thank you for your response again. I am interested in characterizing an existing system. I am also in the process of acquiring the TIA TSB-88.3 document and so I am pleased you suggested that document as well.

I am looking through the ANSI/TIA-102.CAAA (March 2016) and not clear on what the following table is exactly which is down below.
