Hi guys.

Picked up a 106 last week on sale. So far quite happy with it along with the Win500 software.

Had 3 quick questions;

1) Is there an easy quick way while on the go get to a specific channel/user?

For instance on the old Pro-96, I'd simply go manual, Ch#, manual and voila.
Here is seems since there are no channel numbers perse, its more cumbersome to go to a specific channel/user without thumbing up/down the scan list?

2) Somewhat similar, is there an easy quick way to program in a single frequency on the fly?
On the Pro-96 be 3 steps - pgm, frequency, enter.

3) Lastly, I heard on the GRE-500 one could reduce the brightness of the LEDs? When driving at night, the scanner manages to light up my entire car! Any idea if brightness can be adjusted on the 106, and how using the Win500 software?

Thanks for the guidance.

I had the same problem as you, getting used to the object oriented scanning. You can't chose a specific channel unless you use a program such as win500, etc. The frequencies are stored in the next available memory block, which is an id number. (Someone correct me if i am wrong)

You can just the brightness of the LED on the scanner by going to---PROGRAM, THEN GLOBAL. then scroll down to LEDs.

If you press TUNE..you can then type in a single frequency and hit ENT. That will tune you directly to a specific frequency you want.

Thanks guys.
Seems #2 and #3 are cleared up. I found a detailed explantion on the GRE forum regarding the LEDs, and managed to tone them down quite a bit.

For my first question however, and the ability to select single frequencies on the move, is there an easy way to recall only a single frequency if I know its ID number instead?
For instance as I drive around town and move across separate PD divisions, I like to switch to their frequency.
For now all I can come up with is in manual thumb up/down the scan list which for instance in the case of the LAPD is some 70+ channel IDs long. Seems there should be an easy way to select specific IDs/channels on the go instead of trying to read thru 70 of them when I know exactly which one I'd like to listen to next.

Ill say it the simplest way-- if you KNOW the id:

1)click manual

2)type in the ID

3)click the center button of the 5 way pad

Great I'll go with the, manual, ID, Sel method.

I cant arange them in different scanlist, as the LAPD for instance has 21 seperate divsions alone. A seperate scan list would quickly fill up the pro-106 without room for other agencies. For now I have LAPD on one scan list, LAFD other, LACoSheriff on another, LACoFD, and so on...
