• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Louwo, is your home a recently built house

or had new electrical circuits placed in it? The reason I ask is because AFCI breakers could possibly trip due to RF entering on the circuit. (AFCI are Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter breakers, similar to GFI breakers, but detect arcing in the circuit.)

edit: more info on AFCIs at ARRL:

There are new breakers installed in the house Eaton is the brand name. We had a fire in the house 2 years ago in March. I've never heard of those new breakers.

Once before the fire I had a outdoor antenna mainly for my scanner before my county went to a trunk county wide system.

I only dug up my cb just to hit the skip. It was always in my truck not inside. I still need a new whip for my browning. I forgot it snapped when I had it mounted last. Lost a inch. (Difference between ohh and ahh) but anyhow I atleast heard it rolling. Now to pick a weekend and get a bed mount for my antenna and install it in my new truck.

Ty everyone

I know this is going to sound like science fiction.

The farthest I have ever been to talk to in skip, was Virginia.

Here's the thing,it was 1971 and I was using a WT !

Needless to say,it never happened again.

PS: I was Tx from NYC,at that time

Back on the air

I just got back on the air after perhaps 20 years, Nice and clear not much traffic except for ch. 6 which is all skip all stepping on each other, and talk'n language I dont understand.

"he go to liber wif otta bender finger, esso flanger kama swicher, brake brake." And on a 1000w kicker.

Ch. 38 39 and 40 sound better on SSB, at least they speak English, got through to Texas with my small set up.

Cant wait to move so I can put up a proper antenna

Silly question, if all the skippers want to make contact on ch6, why dont they just do that, establish contact then move to a clear ch? That way there are not 90 stations all talking at the same time.
And when did ch6 become the designated "skip" channel?

you are talking about 11 meter jockeys, they are not that organized and not worried too much about protocol. i really doubt they have designated channel 6 as the skip channel, they just use it and others. i used to have a blast working 11 meters in the late 70s and early 80s when it was all I had. i still have 2 of my CB radios and have thought about mounting an antenna and working it once again.

I have been making lots of DX contacts lately on SSB, just using a dipole! Jump back on the band while the skip is still rocking!! :)
