The echo is caused by multiple transmitters online sending the same messages, not quite in sync. As I understand it Andrews has the ability to select any one transmitter (or any and all) in the system if they so desire, and if they did there would be no echo. If they select more than one TX and you have conditions to more than one then you will possibly hear the echo.

Every time I have heard a transmission using the call "Andrews" but seeming to be from a different transmitter it has been preceded by the control tones. I once heard a transmission that was IDing as Andrews with control tones at the beginning and when Andrews unkeyed Offut audio came up in mid word on the same transmitter (in other words Offut had not been under the Andrews TX and the Offut signal levels and audio faults matched the Andrews levels). My assumption is that Andrews had control of the TX and when they dropped it the Offut ops were, and probably had been, trying to use it.

T!

That's what the echo is?

And here I was waiting for them to start talking about their 'lenyears' and turning on 'roger beeps' and hollering for 'big 453 in the sunshine state'. lol.

More codes @ 200utc whats up with that? Never heard this much this time of night. Are we going to war with some other wizz bang 3rd world country? LOL

Lots of long EAMs this morning. Some stations are talking over other stations. Also a strange wind tunnel sound going on all at the same time. Interesting activity.

I just had 'Serenade' off frequency on 11175.5 USB with an EAM @ 2304z on 4/14/2011. Sounded like one of the regular Andrews AFB radio techs. Would they have intentionally tuned off frequency...by this amount?

Hmm... wierd. Andrews must have moved up from the QRM on 1172.

I'm catching an EAM on 11175.50. Sounds like alot of background noise in the Andrews mic, and it sounds like it is the only station too.

A Skyking from Andrews just popped up on 11175, totally overrode the operator on .50, but both of them were saying it at the same time. Wierd.....

Probably not intentionally, but I have seen them set up a freq with errors before. I even caught them in LSB one time in a probable error, it was LSB on only one frequency, on all others they were USB, as normal.

The different call sign would probably indicate it is not one of the Andrews guys. It is likely an airborne asset. Determining how many frequencies they are on at one time can help to narrow down the possibilities.

That's what I was listening to this morning. Stations passing EAMs and talking right over each other.

I actually decoded an EAM from Andrews once. And the uncanny thing was that it was intended for ME!!! Nothing of global geopolitical importance, though. It was simply a reminder for me to wheel the garbage to the street...which I did.

Typically there are many EAMs each day (often averaging about 2 an hour), the majority of them signing with the callsign "Andrews". Sometimes during short duration peaks you can hit a dozen EAMs in just a couple of hours.

I just heard "Schrapnel" giving EAM from an aircraft at 2125utc-sounded closeby. Also heard a female giving EAM way out in the distance under him.

Please keep in mind that EAMs are broadcast routinely, so unless you find them on an odd frequency, you hear a rash of them broadcast out in a short timespan, or something else unusual, reporting here that you heard ____ giving out an EAM on 11175 is just like me posting about hearing WWV each time I tune to 10MHz.

Well pardon me all to hell! :D didn't mean to offend your sensibilities on this matter. Just logging what I though was out of the norm coming from an aircraft but what do I know compared to you?

I have to agree with ridgescan. EAMs that are being broadcast from an aircraft is not the norm! There are also posts in this thread regarding an anomaly with EAMs being broadcast seemingly right over each other of which I believe ridgescan was also eluding to. I would regard that as being valuable info worth posting. I do agree however that just randomly posting "normal" everyday EAM activity is not very valuable information however we must also keep in mind that there are a lot of new listeners out there who may find catching these "normal" every day messages very exciting so they post it. Sorta like catching your first fish. Its all part of the learning curve.

I usually only post them if there is a good quantity of them sent within a few minutes by aircraft and or Andrews. And sometimes the Skykings if they override, or other strange things we hear on GHFS.
