118.825am - has me scratching my head

I have been scanning the civair band with an AirpsyR2/FMSuite and OmniX. I have had the Omni on a tripod on my deck. Decided to move it out into the yard just to get away from potential noise and the house blocking it to the west.

Every hit I get I have been using the database here to look it up and adding to a group on FMS.

Well, I kept getting hits on 118.825. This is NO WHERE close to me, Des Moines, IA. It was scratchy, but very much readable.

Any thoughts?



I decided to sit on the channel. It may be Minneapolis

I decided to sit on the channel. I think it's wrong in the DB. They are talking about contacting Omaha And Minneapolis centers
I agree that it is probably wrong in the DB. Looking at the current high en-route chart they have a postage stamp icon near DSM with 118.825 charted. That frequency is for a high altitude sector of Minneapolis Center, I just don't know which one.

FM stations are moving in, so I have that to contend with also. A ZBFS-95+ band stop is on the way after tonight. lol

That one has me stumped. The closest thing I can find an approach frequency for Milwaukee, WI. 270 Nautical Miles away.

A good source of up to date data is from the FAA's NASR File. Under Comma-separated Values (CSV) Data>Frequency Data (FRQ) https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/flight_info/aeronav/aero_data/NASR_Subscription/

Read it as .325. .825 is ZMP high enroute like Andy51 said.
I'm not sure what I have going on here. Probably operator error.
I am getting a few frequencies that don't come up on RR data base and when I look at LiveATC.net they show distances that don't make sense.
I am noting them as UNKNOWN xxx.xxx, then i can sit on them and listen for some details in the comms.

I have to say this OmniX is ridiculous with "hearing" at distance, though. Need to start working on milcoms next.

118.825 is Minneapolis Center Sector 43. RCAG is located in Des Moines.

135.875 is R90 (Omaha) Approach, in Bellvue, NE. Only a little over 100 NM, so that explains hearing them but with static.
