Thanks for the insight. Sounds like a one of a kind design even though it was marketed as a ground plane. If the impedance could have been matched and main lobe angle lowered by bending the radials down at 45 degrees, I wonder what advantage this "flat" ground plane design with the long radials may have offered, if any? Unless the horizontal radial design makes for easier handling & mounting.

I made this folded dipole from a cut down TV antenna - kept the balun in the orange box and fed it with RG6 - seems to work very well only about 15 feet above ground. Although it looks like there is an insulator at the boom end in fact there is a wire jumper across the screws so it is continuous.

So what frequency band did you cut that TV antenna turned folded dipole for and how is it performing? Design and mounting location resembles a DB-212 style that is used for lowband VHF. Looks simple and robust.
One follow up question, if the DB-201 is different from a normal 1/4 wave ground plane due to the longer radials, what would it be called? Or was this a "proprietary design " unique to DB Products/Andrew Antenna?
