In my Daryll Symington (14th Edition, 2001) directory, it's listed as: Air Guard Tactical

What's the call sign you are hearing? Often you'll hear either Sting or Viper on this frequency.

A recorder would be handy, I have only heard traffic twice now, and have not been able to make out conversation, still monitoring with volume up now. If hear them again, and can get more info I will post.

Do you have it in AM mode?

Monitoring 139.625 in NFM Mode, Could it be MI National Guard? (even though their is not any bases around) using same freqs as Ohio?, as I should be to far NW to monitor Ohio?

The 180th from Ohio ANG uses Michigan's MOAs for training, thats why you hear them. Check the Wiki page below in my signature for more info.

I switched to AM mode and what a difference, Thanks MM & Palzeke.

Why is the default setting on my Pro-2042 NFM instead of AM? What freq range should be AM instead of NFM?

I heard comms this morning 139.700 SANGB

Generally speaking, if the radio gear is in something that is flying, it's most likely to be AM mode. If it's on the ground, it's most likely to be FM mode. If it's VHF on the ground, it's usually FM, and if it's UHF on the ground, it's usually NFM.

There are always exceptions of course.
