Got my SDS-100 back on 1/6 from a cold solder repair, the radio is receiving great.

Now on Monday 1/20, my knob seems to be messed up. When I try to scroll it goes up down up down up down. For instance if I try to increase volume and the volume is currently on 5, if I try to turn up the volume it will go, 5/6/5/6/5/6/5/6/5/6/5/6/5/6. I virtually can not go thru any menus with the knob like this. Pretty frustrated. I just bought a SDS-200 too lol.

I have tried re loading the software, but the problem re-surfaces. Any ideas?

You might try taking the battery out and let the thing sit for a while. That should reset all the logic and maybe clear up the issue. That's really
annoying after waiting for it to come back from another repair.

I will try that, thank you. My warranty is up 4/9/20. The scanner is useable, think I'm going to wait till 4/1 to send it in, just in case anything else goes wrong with it.

My SDS100 went back for a knob issue less than three weeks after I bought it. A bit over a year after that, it had the cold solder issue. One can hope the repairs are more permanent and that they found a way to make them last a bit more. Sending my unit in once a year seems a bit excess.

My SDS200 has been fine though since I bought it. Aside from the analog hum/grounding issue which is mostly fixed it's a great unit.

I'll wait another year - at least - until the bug reports stop - to buy either one of these "Experimental" Scanners. :ROFLMAO:

So the knob issue is directly related to the cold solder issue i've read in other posts? i was going to say the OP must be turning the knob at .02 MPH lol , or he's in a dusty environment. I'm assuming most are DIY, but i can do some SMT soldering / scanner repair for fellow forum members lol. on a serious note, i've owned 2 SDS100's, one with moderate use and one like new and the knob feel was totally different on both, mostly the audible click, but also the appearance, looseness, and response when you try to slowly soft-click it.

ME TOO!!!!!! Just got the radio back for a defective antenna jack which they repaired, but immediately I noticed that the knob felt different. Sure enough today the thing snapped off clean in my hand. I am pissed, and let Uniden have it today on the phone. They agreed to send me prepaid shipping and will fix the radio I hope. I refuse to pay for a repair like this after they just had it for a month

I would think for close to a 700 dollar scanner, QC would be better. I would not totally blame the repair guys, its the manufacturing that is getting cheesy. We had a issue with Dell years ago at the DOD where we bought tens of thousands of laptops. The PC would work 3 months then poof it was dead. It was a bad motherboard run and the Dell repair guy came every day to replace MB's. Finally the CEO of the company showed up to apologize which was fine and the problem finally got resolved. Mass producing anything has its inherent problems. Oh and the US Governement hired the Dell rep as a permanent contract employee.

I have this problem on an old 396T. I believe the issue is caused by a dirty or worn out connection between the knob and the sensor. I was unable to open the box that housed the sensor with out cutting it open. I pretty sure this is the issue due to when I push the knob to one side while turning the volume it functions as normal.

No this is cheap ass brittle brass being used with what appears to be a cast metal core which is even more brittle and super thin. Its a lot of function that is dependent on this horrible design.

My company installed 30 Dellcomputers at a customer site and that batch had the pirated chinese capacitors that Dell had bought. But Dell wouldn't switch out the MB's until they had failed, I think it took 2 years for the last one to fail, so the customer got into trouble each time a computer failed as it wasn't a cutomer straigh forward swap but it had to be installed at site as MAC addresses and so on where different.

It's all about the quality of the after sales support that's important when these kind of things happen and if will be costly for the company that manufactured the equipment and they will try to dodge their responsibility. No Dell's where ever again ordered.

My SDS100 came with a non-functioning blue LED on the front. Blue won't work, and any color that relies on blue also won't work. I was going to send it in for repair, but given what I've read from people who got theirs back and it was less reliable after repairs, I decided not to. It's disappointing that the quality of this radio is where it is given the high cost.
