Hi all,

I'm a newbie. Would like to find out if there is any handheld antenna (with SMA) connected which will gain the distance of my VHF transiver. It is operated in 140 -160 Mhz.

Where can I find a small with high gain to replace the original antenna.

Thanks

Hi Melisa,
Well there are replacement antennas that do better than stock antennas that come with most radios. But you won't find High Gain from any of them, just better reception compared to others.
Here is a couple of links that have good replacement antennas that provide better reception:
Diamond RH77CA Amateur HT Antenna
Maldol AL-500H Air band Scanner Antenna
Take those model numbers and shop around, you might find better prices and even search e-bay for them.

Here is a company which makes their own too. Its not a dual band antenna, its single.
Smiley Antennas

I have the UHF version 5/8 which is no longer than the 1/4 wave that I replaced and am very happy with it.
