151.2875 Split. Can't get BC785D to accept it

Was listening to CDF this afternoon, & heard someone tell a Helicopter pilot to go to "Air Tactics One -- that's 151.2875."


I tried this and still can't get the above frequency it defaults to 151.2900

Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong, or is there another way to do it? Any info appreciated.

That is not a 5khz step channel, it is 7.5khz step. I don't know what the BC785 has for channel steps, but you need 7.5khz or 2.5khz.... OR if it is like the BC898 if you select 6.25khz it will automatically default to 7.5khz if that part of the band, and 6.25khz where you need it in the federal part of the band. Pretty slick really.

Also select "NFM" as the mode.

The 785D can do 7.5 KHz step and "NFM" mode. You set these two parameters in #6 and #7 of the Scan Option, Conventional menu level.

And to clarify, the correct designations are:
151.2875 Air Tactics 22
166.675 Air Tactics 1

Even in NFM mode, you will still hear "interference" from Air Tactics 3 151.280 and Air Tactics 4 151.295 because they are only 7.5 KHz away and may not be carrying only narrowband transmissions yet.

OOOOPS - change the Air Tactics numbers mentioned in my post from 3 and 4 to 4 and 5.

Definitely heard them refer to 151.2875 as "Air Tactics One"
Anyway, will try the ideas about getting the 785D to get these splits.

When first released for use by the state, the narrow channels (21 & 22) were called 7 & 8. Subsequently, there was concern about confusing the use of the new narrow channels with the wide channels, causing readability problems in the field. This prompted the designation change from 7 & 8 to 21 & 22. Once all of the CDF radios (mobiles, bases and repeaters) are narrow, this will be a non-issue.

Regardless of what you heard, the CORRECT designations are:

Air Tactics 1 166.675
Air Tactics 2 169.150
Air Tactics 3 169.200
Air Tactics 4 151.280
Air Tactics 5 151.295
Air Tactics 6 151.310

Air Tactics 21 151.2725 NFM
Air Tactics 22 151.2875 NFM

Air Tactics 1, 2 and 3 are primarily assigned for federal fires
Air Tactics 4, 5, 6, 21 and 22 are primarily assigned for non-federal fires in California
North and South Ops make the assignments for each incident.
1, 2 and 3 (and other incident-specific feds freqs) may be assigned to large non-federal incidents as adjacent incidents, multiple air ops on a single large incident, and interference may require.
